Place the 'Shri Yantra' (Photograph) in front of you in the puja room. Before starting the Vaibhava Lakshmi Vrata, one should have a look at the 'Shri Yantra' with devotion and touch your hands devotedly to your eyes. Then one should bow down one's head to the photograph of 'Shri Yantra' and the 'Eight incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi' and touch with hands to one's eyes. Place a plain red piece of cloth on Aasanam (seat or mat) in front of the yantra. Spread a handful of rice on the piece of cloth. Now place a copper or brass kalash (pot shaped vessel) filled with water on the spreaded rice. Keep a small cup (Arghyam cup) with a silver or gold coin on the Kalash. One can also keep a rupee coin if one has no silver or gold coin. Now apply sandalwood paste and kumkum to the kalash and coin. Offer red flowers (preferably).
