Sonika Oberoi,

You can do Vaibhava Lakshmi Vratam on Friday. You can do this for 8 weeks and then do Udyapan. You can buy the Vaibhava Lakshmi Vrat book and do the Puja.

Please see these links for Vaibhava Lakshmi Puja book

Please see this link for Vaibhava Lakshmi Puja…

On the day of observance of the vrat, ie; on a Friday morning, after taking bath, clean the puja room and start the puja as follows:

Light the oil lamp. Place the 'Shri Yantra' (Photograph) in front of you in the puja room. Before starting the Vaibhava Lakshmi Vrata, one should have a look at the 'Shri Yantra' with devotion and touch your hands devotedly to your eyes. Then one should bow down one's head to the photograph of 'Shri Yantra' and the 'Eight incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi' and touch with hands to one's eyes.

Place a plain red piece of cloth on Aasanam (seat or mat) in front of the yantra. Spread a handful of rice on the piece of cloth. Now place a copper or brass kalash (pot shaped vessel) filled with water on the spreaded rice. Keep a small cup (Arghyam cup) with a silver or gold coin on the Kalash. One can also keep a rupee coin if one has no silver or gold coin. Now apply sandalwood paste and kumkum to the kalash and coin. Offer red flowers (preferably).

One should recite the following shlokas : Shri Mahalakshmi Ashtakam

Namasthesthu Mahamayey ……………

Yaa rakthaambuja Vaasini Vilasini Chandaanshu tejaswini !! Yaa raktha rudhirambhara Harisakhi Yaa shree manolhaasini !! Yaa ratnaakara manthanaa pragantitha vishnoswaya gehini !! Saa maam paathu manorama Bhagavathi Lakshmi cha padmavathi !!

Hellow Sonika, The fasting is ment to clear our unwanted colories to take off. Any day you can keep fasting. It is generaly said from son raise to sun set you must not take food. But if you make changes in this God will accespt you need to bother only with your friends and family. Friday is good day for all good things.

hai sonika,

Vaibhava Lakshmi pooja is generally done on friday evening after 6.00pm. It is done for 8 weeks, i mean for 8 fridays. But you should make sure that first 3 fridays should not get any distrabance due to your dates. There is also another alternative. some people who cannot do for such long time will start pooja on one friday evening and do it for that whole week untill next friday evening. that also 8 days and can do udyapanam calling 8 muttayuduvas(which are treated as Ashta Lakshmi's)

And about fasting on that day, generally we don't eat any thing if we have any pooja to perform, is it? but in this case, as the pooja should have to be done in the evening only. we can take fruits or any tiffin once in the morning and can eat rice after completing the pooja at night.

Its very powerfull pooja, so get going....

good luck
