Strict fat is sans food. However in these days light food is taken on any vrat day to keep fit for normal mundane activities. Suggest:(a)milk (b)fruits (c)sat tu (d)sweet dish, preferably using jaggery,in that order.Eschewing rice/chapati and replacing with puri and vegetable side dishes would not be proper vrat though some do so.Some avoid salt too.No vrat at cost of health.Shariram aadyam khalu dharmasadhanam

Hi Vivek, One of the most common foods used in Indian fasts is Sabudana ki khichdi and fruits.

These two should be the best for Santoshi Mata Fasts.

Dear Vivek ,

Any sour thing / item like curd, lemon tamarind or any such thing, should not be used for Santhoshi mata pooja. All the other things you can consume . See that the chips doesn't contain any sour ingredients in the masalas used. So it is better to stay with plain salted chips. In the other masala chips sometimes amchur is added. All the best

Fresh food without garlic and onion and masala items can be taken. And sour items like tamarind, lime or tomato must not be taken. U can make poori , kheer, and simple vegetables sabji.Potato wafers made in house can be taken. Avoid bazari items on that day.

You can eat only one meal a day during Santhoshi matha Vrath either lunch or dinner. Few elderly people eat only Gud and channa. Better to avoid out side foods and fast food. Eat regular home made food like dal, roti, rice and you can also eat vegetables which are not sour in nature. Only taste which has to be avoided is sour (katta)
