Query from: Shamila, USA, 02/10/10
Topic: RECIPES      Submitted on: Ammas.com
Subject: brown patches

I prepared idli batter for my friend with Bansi idli rava and urad dhal( 3:1.5) just as a help as she was busy with some chores. But i was surprised to hear her say the idlis had reddish brown patches. The answer to similar query posted in amma.com clarified my confusion. But the very next day when I blended for idli in the same ratio (this time mixed bansi and laxmi idli rava) there were no such patches on the idli. Why is this strange difference? Kindly help me clear this.

The idli rava you had taken before might have been stale. Always check for the expiry date on the pack before you buy idli rava or for that matter before you buy anything.. Mix idli rava 3 katori to urad daal 1&1/2katori, soak for 6-7 hrs, then add little poha n methi daana to it and grind it in the night n prepare good fluffly idlis in the morning
