The daily worship is called Aradhanai). Typically, an aradhanai will involve seven steps, (i) approaching the Lord, (ii) ritual bathing (Thiru Manjanam), (iii) dressing up (alankaram), (iv) recitation of praises (archanai, and (v) offering a variety of food, (vi) offering other courtesies, and (vii) taking leave of the Lord. These steps may vary in importance and length depending upon when and where the worship is performed. For instance, Thirumanjanam is performed only during the mid-day worship. The daily worship at Sri Ahobila Matham is conducted three times a day. These are called Abhigamana Aradhana, Ijyai Aradhana, and Panaka Aradhana.

Abhigamana Aradhana is performed immediately followed by "Viswaroopa." in the morning. Viswaroopa. refers to the vision of the Lord at the time of ceremoniously awakening the Lord in the morning. Abhigamana Aradhanai is important for Sanyasis (monastic). The Jeeyar being a Sanyasi performs the Abhigamana Aradhanai himself.

Ijyai Aradhana is performed (around 11.30 a.m. or 12 noon) by a designated priest called Aradhakar. However, the Jeeyar himself will perform certain important courtesies to the Lord. Ijyai is followed by the partaking of the food offered to the Lord called prasadam.

Panaka Aradhana is performed at dusk. It is followed by the partaking of evening food offered to the Lord. After the Panaka Aradhanai completed, the Lord is ceremoniously escorted to retire for the night.

Each Aradhanai has it is own rules laid down from the time of Vedas. These rules are strictly followed to this very day. Different sets of hymns from Dhivya Prabhandhams, Desika Prabhandhams, Desika Sthothramala, hymns by Sri Ramanuja, Swami Sri Desikan, previous Jeeyars of Sri Ahobilam Matham, and other Sri Vaishnava saints are recited during these worship sessions. Each worship session ends with the recitation of salutations to the Lord and the line of preceptors (Acharyas). This recitation is called Satrumurai.

Dear Member:

The easiest Pooja that can be done for Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is chanting the Runa Vimochana Narasimha sthothram which will give relief from debts (both mundane and karmic!). It is auspicious to chant this slokha 9 times on Swaati nakshatra days. This sthothra is found in Narasimha Puraana.

Chanting of chapters related to Narasimha Avataara from Shrimad Bhaagavatam/ Naaraayaneeyam (Naaraayaneeyam chapter is very short with just 10 odd slokhas and will take hardly 10 mins. to chant) daily will be auspicious and ensure Lord Narasimha's protection to the devotee.

Chanting Narasimha Karaavalambha sthothram will ensure Divine Protection in times of acute crisis including fear of imprisonment, becoming victim of false accusations, when involved in critical court cases, etc. If you can't chant the full slokham (it is moderately big!), you can just chant "Om Kshmriyoom Lakshmi Narasimhaaya Namaha mama dehi karaavalambham" 18 times daily.

Offering "Paanakam" (jaggery mixed with water, elaichi, ginger extracts) is very auspicious to Lord Lakshmi Narasimhaa.

Lakshmi Narasimhaa - though he has a "ugra" appearance - is an easily appeased Divine Form. Remember that He pervaded the Full Universe and readily manifested even in a stone pillar as soon as His devotee - the child Prahalaada said that His Hari will be even in the Pillar and in the atom! There are some interesting commentaries that extol this event as follows: "Great Philosophers may argue and debate and give intelligent answers when asked where God is! But Prahalaada was only a child and he may show any thing or place as the residence of God.....The Blessed Lord Himself was anxious as to which place His devotee would show as His abode and hence manifested Himself pervading the Full Universe at that time so that He can manifest immediately to honour the belief of His child-devotee!" Of course, this is a poetic exaggeration as the Omnipotent and Omnipresent Lord can manifest at a moment's notice anywhere...But, the thing to be noted is that the Bhaava of the Narasimha Avataara is INSTANT MANIFESTATION OF GODLY GRACE TO RESCUE HIS DEVOTEES.

Apart from the daily worships/ Swaati Nakshatra worships, you can visit Narasimha Kshetraas like Mattapalli, Mangalagiri, Sholingar hills (called Gadigaachalam in the Puraanaas), etc.

May Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Bless you and your family with His Grace.

Lord Vishnu incarnates when evil dominates over virtues. Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is the supreme incarnation who is the rescuer of His devotees at the time of distress. When Hiranyakashapu, the father of Prahlada, exhibited the demonic qualities and committed atrocities with our divine super natural powers, there appeared the Lord from the pillar, with a forceful voice to prove the faith of Prahlada who was the staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. It is believedthe Lord Narasihma extended his helping hand to Sri Adisankara and he in turn praised him in 'Karavalamba Stotra'. Though Lord Vishnu has many incarnations, people have great faith in his avatar as Sri Lakshmi Narasihma, as they believe that He will rescues them during the times of distress, as He had done with his devotee Prahlada.

Narasimha indicates God's omnipresence and the lesson is that God is everywhere.

*Prahlada's devotion indicates that pure devotion is not one of birthright but of character.

Prahlada, although born an asura, demonstrated greatest bhakti to God.

Dear Asker,

Due to the nature of Narasimha's form (divine anger), it is considered essential that worship is given with a very high level of attention compared to other deities. In many temples only life-long celebates (brahmacarya) will be able to have the chance to serve as priests to perform the daily puja. Forms where Narasimha appears sitting in a yogic posture, or with the goddess Lakshmi are the exception to this rule, as Narasimha is taken as being more relaxed in both of these instances compared to his form when first emerging from the pillar to protect Prahlada.

Temples dedicated to Narasimha

* Shri Yogananda Narasimha Swamy, Vedadri, near to Vijayawada * Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Antarvedi, West Godavari District, AP * Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Mallooru, Warangal District (~70KM from Bhadrachalam), AP * Shri Lord Lakshmi-Narasimha Swamy temple, Korukonda, near to Rajahmundry * Shri Narasimha temple, Malakonda, Prakasham District, AP * Shri Prasanna Narasimha Swamy temple, Singarakonda, Prakasham district, AP * Shri Narasimha Swamy Temple, Khammam, Khammam District, AP. The etymology of Khammam is said to be derived from the deity of the temple. * Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple Sholinghur, Tamil Nadu. More information on Sholinghur temple . * Shri Yoga Narasimha, situated on a hilltop fortress at Melkote, Mysore District, Karnataka (Kannada for Mele- Top, Kote- Fort). The Fort, situated on a near vertical hill is a strategic area, overlooking the plains, giving the controllers a vantage point. Melkote is also the site of the famous Cheluvanarayana Temple and the Annual Vairamudi festival, where the deity is adorned with a crown of dazzling uncut diamonds. Ramanujacharya is said to have settled here to escape the Bahmani Sultan's persecution. * At Ahobalam, mythologically known as the birth place of Lord Narasimha, there exist Navanarsimha (nine Narasimhas). This is also a deity at the village of Saligrama near Hassan in Karnataka: 1. Ugra Narasimha 2. Krodha Narasimha 3. Malola Narasimha 4. Jwala Narasimha 5. Varaha Narasimha 6. Bhargava Narasimha 7.
