Subject: can continuous crying damage eyesight?

I have a friend who is suffering from depression and is under a lot of stress, she can't stop crying, literally, she said that the skin is peeling off around her eyes and is really sore, her eyes are too sore to close in order to sleep. she is really worried about her eyesight, so far shes not got any symptoms of damage to it, but she is worried that all this crying will eventually damage her eyesight. can you tell me if this is a possibilty please. thank you

Hi,

Advice your friend to find the solution for the root cause. The depression to be treated first. No eyes will get spoiled because of crying a lot. If its a fact more than half the population of the world would be blind by now. No remedy will work unless the root cause is solved properly.

It may be rashes around the eyes. Tell your friend to Consult a good doctor and have some vitamin supplements.

Hello Ellen, Constant cyring does not affect eyesight in anyway.Emotional tears are a response which only humans have, for only people can weep. but too much cryinjg will affect other system which can cause constant head ache. All animals that live in air produce tears to lubricate their eyes. One of the most obvious functions of tears is to lubricate your eyeball and eyelid, but they also prevent dehydration of your various mucous membranes—and anyone with the ‘dry eye’ problem knows how painful this can be. A severe lack of this lubrication produces a condition requiring medication or therapy to save the victim’s eyesight. Another important function of tears is that they bathe your eyes in lysozyme, one of the most effective antibacterial and antiviral agents known.Infact crying due to emotional causes is good for some reasons.tear production may actually be a way to aid a person to deal with emotional problems.Weeping, is an excretory process which removes toxic substances that normally build up during emotional stress.

The simple act of crying also reduces the body’s manganese level, a mineral which affects mood and is found in up to 30 times greater concentration in tears than in blood serum. Emotional tears contain 24 per cent higher albumin protein concentration than tears caused by eye irritants.Though shedding your tears is good for some reasons..your friend should find a permament solution to her depression.

Hi! The good news is NO, you CANNOT go blind from crying. However, too much crying can cause some serious puffy, swollen eyelids or eyelid bags.

The best cure for your swollen eyelids is TIME. After a few hours the swollen eyes should go back to normal. Try having the eyes blink several times to help get rid of extra tears and to flush them out. Going to sleep after crying is not a good idea either because you will just wake up with puffier eyes. While sleeping your eyelids were not moving to flush the eye clean.

Also consider using thin slices of cucumbers and potatoes over the closed eyes for 15-30 minutes. This will help relieve the pain and puffiness. Applying a cool washrag over closed eyes will also help with the redness.

If these still does not help then I'm afraid, you'll need to address the source of the problem. If you're friend is seeing a psychiatrist already then good. If not, it's important the he does!

It will not damage her eyesight, although clearly it is damaging the skin around her eyes.

However, if I were her friend, I would tell her whatever I thought would make her see a doctor, even if it were a lie.

Depression is a serious illness, more serious in many cases than vision loss.

Hi! Ellen, excessive tears can make eyes sore and affect the eyesight. For your friend Psychiatrist consultation is a must and on priority basis. Her depression needs to be treated first which will help her to come out of this situation. Pls consult Psychiatrist immediately.

Crying has no link to eyesight. What she is getting is skin irritation due to excess moisture on the skin. Please get the depression treated. The eyes will be fine

Hi Ellen, For depression your friend has to see the doctor. For stress she can do some yoga to keep her mind calm. But the crying will not help her in any way and see,she has another kind of stress about her eyes. "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift: that's why they call it the present."-Eleanor Roosevelt ,clearly presented a good way to start our every day of life.As a friend, please help her to get away from these problems.
