Topic: OTHER CUISINE      Submitted on: Ammas.com
Subject: When making Friendship Bread it says don't use any type of metal spoon etc. I used a wire whisk when making last batch of starter. batter ?

Cookie,

The starter batches won't work as well when metal is used, especially a metal bowl. When the bread dough is acidic, such as friendship bread, it can react with metal utensils and mixing bowls. This isn't a problem for mixing or sifting the dry ingredients, but when you leave the dough in the bowl for hours to rise you can get a metallic taste in the bread dough. Since you just used the wire whisk, you may be OK. I just wouldn't try it for large batches.
