Amethyst a cafe attached to a gallery and vice versa. Located in serene greenery and tucked away off Lloyd's road away from the hustle and honks. We (me and my better half) came here a little early in the evening and had a quick browse in the gallery. Stocked with antiques and reprints of old photographs and a good deal of woman's fabrics at rip-off prices. We picked up some fragrant oils and decided to hit the garden cafe. I am impressed by the sit out - very comfortable aluminum chairs in the heart of lush green trees, palms and ferns. A quick glance at the menu and we ordered Passion fruit juice for her followed by Caesars Salad, Vegetable Pizza and Vegetable Penne with Garlic and Cheese in quick succession followed by two cappuccinos. The Caesars was crisp with a slight hint of garlic, pizza was great with herbs and zucchini on a thin crisp base though I would have preferred a soft and fluffy base. Cappuccinos were served like the way I always like it - sprinkled with cinnamon and a "hershey's kisses" to be had after your coffee, I prefer a slightly less sweet chocolate like the Godiva 72% Dark Demitasse or a dark chocolate bar. A great place to unwind and stretch.

Amethyst is a Chennai coffee shop, boutique, and theatre of sorts. Its a spacious old colonial style house set in a large compound in Jeypore Colony,a leafy and quiet neighborhood in an upmarket part of Chennai.

On the ground floor is the Moca Cafe, a coffee house with an unhurried air, a limited menu of short eats of indifferent quality, and surprisingly downmarket waiters.

The nicest thing about Moca is the ambience. In a city that shouts, it is a place where you can have coffee and unhurried conversation at low decibels on wicker chairs on a verandah looking out on the garden through bamboo slatted sun-blinds. The prices are at the Rs 50 to Rs 75 per item level - a little below the prices at the loud and characterless Qwikys and Cafe Day coffee chains. You can also find reviews on Cafe Amethyst in

Its a great place and Amethyst is not exactly an european restaurant. Its multicuisine and the look is more like a open cafe but bigger in size. A cool place to relax and dine. Its lush greenery giving way to peace and mental rejuvenation. It has nursery as well as a shop and a bakery.
