Hi Shruti,

You could use bengal gram flour or green gram flour along with some other ingredients to make a face pack. Bengal gram is generally recommended to give clear skin.

Green gram and Bengal gram powder(s) make the skin look clear. If you have a dry skin you could use these with a combination of curd or milk.

Bengal Gram Powder (flour) mixed with curds is very effective in clearing pimples & other skin infections & allergies.

Green Gram powder flour along with water or glycerin is an excellent face wash to remove dirt without skin irritation, and it also acts as an effective bleach for a good complexion.

One more tip is : use a teaspoonful of tumeric powder along with curd or cream, Bengal gram flour, sandal powder and apply once a day about ten/fifteen minutes before before bath; This is an excellent remedy to keep skin fresh and soft.

Hi Shruti,

Bengal gram flour is Besan and you are right,it absorbs oil.But You might have noticed that it is always used in conjucntion with cream/yogurt/full cream milk. This face pack is very good for dry skin. The cream contains a lot of fat.But too much fat is not good for any type of skin.Hence besan is used so that it absorbs excess oil from the skin.

Green gram flour is Moong flour. It keeps the skin very smooth and is very good for all types of skin.Especially dry skin.I have used green gram flour and I do have dry skin.It worked wonders for my skin,I never had dryness as long as I used it and my skin was also literally satin-smooth.

Hope this helps you.Goodluck.

You can use either one of them and you will get similar results. You are right in that these flours absorb oil. Precisely for that reason, you are supposed to apply a mosturizer to the face after you wash of the mask and dry your face. The primary purpose of these masks is exfoliation - to remove the top most layers of dead skin. However, you can make the mask with milk or yogurt and the drying effect of the skin will be mitigated to some extent.

bengal gram flour (Besan) or green gram flour (Moong flour) make the skin look clear. It is true that bengal gram flour absorb oil, but both bengal gram flour and green gram flour are used for dry skin. However green gram flour is very good for dry skin. In case of dry skin these can be used with a combination of curd, milk, honey or glycerin. Which minimize it oil-observing quality and keep the skin moisturized.

Green gram flour is used as a face pack along with milk, curd, turmeric, honey or glycerin. It leaves the skin smooth and soft. Green gram flour mixed with water is a good way to cleanse the skin. Bengal gram flour is used to wash face and body. It is also used as a facemask along with other ingredients like turmeric powder and milk etc.It is useful in removing oil and also in scrubbing out dirt and dead scales. Leaves the skin smooth and clean. Applying Bengal gram flour mixed with curd is known to be beneficial for the skin diseases like acne. Gram flour is a popular acne herbal medication and also acts like mild bleach.

hi Shruti We use both bengal gram flour and green gram flour for smooth soft and glowing skin.It suits all skin types.Even I noticed that bengal gram flour mixed with water makes skin dry since my skin is normal to dry.So I tried mixing bengal gram flour with milk(or milk cream)and honey. It works greatly on dry skin since honey and milk moisturises the skin.It is the reason besan mixed with milk cream and honey is often recommended for dry skin.

Here is how you can incorporate this powdered wonder in your beauty rituals.

Skincare:

A complexion lightening mask: Take four almonds with a teaspoon and a half of gram flour, a teaspoon of milk and four drops of lemon juice. Mix it and apply it on your face. Leave it on for the bleach to take effect.

Take lemon juice, mixed with gram flour, milk cream and honey for dry skin. Replace milk cream and honey with sandalwood powder and curd for oily to normal skin. Apply it on your face to ensure a clear complexion.

Add milk, rose water, carrot juice and cucumber juice to the above to remove freckles. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off.

A complexion revival mask: Mix together a teaspoon of gram flour with a pinch of turmeric powder, a few drops of lemon juice and half a teaspoon each of olive oil and milk. Apply it on your face. Remove after 10 minutes.

Removing unwanted facial hair: Take a teaspoonful of gram flour and make a paste by mixing water in it. Apply it daily and scrub it off when dry.

Whitening the knees, neck and hands: Mix lemon juice and gram flour and apply it on the knees, hands and neck to whiten them.

A besan pack: Take one spoonful of besan, a pinch of turmeric (haldi), half a spoon of honey and half spoon of olive oil. Mix it well and apply.

For pimples: Add curd to gram flour to make a paste and apply it on the face. Completely rub it off before it dries. Repeat every two days. This is also good for removing blemishes. Make curd out of skim milk for oily skin.

Warm some honey and add some besan to it. Apply this paste to your face. Wash with warm water after it dries.

For blemished skin: Add cucumber juice to some besan to form a paste. Apply it to the face and wash off after it dries. This will also tighten the skin pores.

Besan for oily skin: Make a thick paste out of curd and besan. Just apply it on your face and leave it to dry for a few minutes.

Besan for dry skin: Use full-cream milk instead of curd to make a paste with besan. Apply a mixture of the milk and gram flour onto your skin and leave to dry.

To take care of chronically dry skin, mix a teaspoon of milk cream with gram flour and a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of turmeric. Apply this regularly on your face.

A skin glow mask: Soak tamarind root for some time. Grind and mix it with a little gram flour and apply it on your face, hands and other parts of your body. Your skin will have a golden glow after you wash this off after 10 minutes.

Body scrubs:

Mix together a tablespoon each of besan and corn flour. Use this mix to wash your face and body. This is an excellent scrub and will remove your dead skin cells, leaving you feeling clean and glowing.

Mix some fresh cream and besan. Apply this paste on to your body. Avoid the area around the eyes, eyebrows and lips. Shower after five minutes. This will make skin smooth.

Unwanted facial hair: Apply a mixture of fenugreek powder and besan on the unwanted hair. Let it dry and rub off.

Mix besan, milk and turmeric (you can add lemon juice and sandalwood powder) and apply on face. Let it dry and rub off in a circular motion.

Mix besan, lemon juice and malai. Apply on areas with excess hair and rub off.

Face packs

For normal skin: Mix two tablespoons of gram flour and four tablespoons of milk in a clean container. Apply this all over the face and the neck avoiding the area around the eyes and lips. Leave on for 10 minutes and then wash off.

For oily skin

Mix two tablespoons of honey with a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of rosewater. Apply this all over the face, leave it on for about five minutes and wash off.

For dry skin: Mix a tablespoon of milk powder with a teaspoon of gram flour and two tablespoons of rose water. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash off.

Hi Shruti,

1. Bengal gram flour is mostly used in face packs. Yes, you are right that Bengal gram absorbs oil from the skin & this is why rose water & fresh milk cream are mixed with Bengal gram flour for preparing the face pack for dry skin. Bengal gram flour clears the skin & also removes small unwanted hair on using in scrubs. Bengal gram face pack for dry skin: Mix besan, fresh milk cream & little rose water to make it a paste. Apply this paste on your face and neck. Wash it off after 15 minutes.

2. Green gram flour can be used as cleanser. You can mix it with some curd & apply it to your face & neck. Wash it off after 10-15 minutes. Do this twice a day.

To remove dryness of skin u can mix gram flour with curd. Apply it on face & body. Remove it after drying.u can use cream instead of curd if u have dry skin.oily or dry skin persons can use this.

u see below bengal gram and green gram flour face packs:

1).Oily Skin - Scrubs :Take 1/2 cup of green gram powder, add 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Add enough water to make a paste. Use it to scrub the face gently. Wash with cold water. Do not use soap after the treatment.

2).Take the half of a lime peel, from which the juice has been extracted, rub this firmly on the face and the neck. Using a Scrub-(once in 3-4 days).

3).After washing off the milk or juice - take a tsp of oat bran or wheat husk or gram flour (besan). Make a paste with a few drops of water and rub the face and neck gently with this. This sloughs away the dead cells and gives the face a glow. Don't use soap, just splash on cold water that will act as an astringent and close the pores.

4).Use green gram powder or rice flour mixed with curds instead.

Oily Skin: If the face is oily,

After a bath as a base for make-up use some diluted limejuice to dab on before application of foundation or any other make-up.

5).for Cooling up tan

Add the paste to the rest of the powders and add milk if the consistency is too thick. Add 6 six drops of lavender oil Apply paste all over body in massaging strokes and wait till semi dry. Now wash off with either cool or warm water. Spray some rose water and pat dry.

6).Take egg white and apply to your face, after it dries wash your face with basin flour. This face pack is good for oily skin only ( note:- do not apply this face pack around your eyes)

7).Make a smooth paste of fresh tender green gram (1 tsp.), curds (2 tsp.), turmeric (2-3 pinches) spread smoothly over face. Wash after 15-20 minutes for fresh cool feeling.
