Now that All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to ban part-time management courses in business schools will the existing students studying in these part time students have difficulty getting jobs? Also, if down the road they need any affidavits of their mark sheets, etc from these universities, if the course has been disbanded, who do they turn to? Has the AICTE given any guidelines for how these existing students?

The Department of Education governs AICTE. When AICTE has decided to ban part time Manaement Courses in Business Schools, they would still exist as an Institution for other normal courses. They would of course maintain all the records for these courses that have ended and provide required references or extracts from these records. Further the Education Department will make necessary arrangements if needed to ensure that records are maintained.

Universities and Educational Institutions change courses, subjects, method of teaching etc from time to time. Students from previous systems are never left out in cold to fend for themselves if they need a reference of education or need an extract of records.

No, I dont think students who have studied via part time channel should have any problems getting jobs as at the end of the day...hiring companies or recruiters are mainly looking for work experience these days..fair enough if you have done MBA..but when you are applying for jobs..you are going to analyse yourself to see if you meet all the requirements or not...and also it depends how well you sell urself in the interview... As far as the affidavits, mark sheets are concerned , I am sure you need to go back to AICTE and they would be able to provide those details..I'm sure even though they have decided to ban part time study channel..they are not going to admin system and will maintain data for all the students who were in part time...I dont see any major issues here....Again, this is my opinion...i have myself studied MBA full time but I know friends who did part time and they are in better job than me...

AICTE is yet to issue any guidelines regarding what you enquired. But, for getting the certificates after completion of the course, I don't think there should be any difficulties. The ban is from current year and so there won't be any further part time management courses.

Now for getting a job, one must be competitive in his own field. Even though you carry a Management certificate along with you, you may not be selected for a job based on that. What more concerns is your competitiveness for the job.

Part time Management courses are basically designed for the working person. This is because they can not manage time to go for a regular course. Moreover, a management degree will help them in their career progression and to increase their earning level. So, if one is not working and have enough time, it is better for them to go for a regular management degree than a part time one. I think I could make the concept clear for you.

If you are already in a job and persuing a part time management course, you need not worry. Your employer will certainly recognize your merit and open the path for your career progression. Good Luck.

Hi

The decision of ban relates to future admissions only. Existing students will continue and there will not be any problem getting jobs or certificates.

AICTE has decided not to approve new part-time MBA programmes or allow fresh admissions in existing ones from the next academic year. B-schools have to apply to AICTE every year for renewing their part-time programmes.

clutch of management institutes in Mumbai are planning to file a public interest suit in the Bombay High Court. "AICTE, in a bid to clean the mess in management education, is penalising good institutes as well. We know that part-time MBA programmes are meant for experienced professionals and many institutes are admitting fresh graduates instead to make money. But AICTE could have clamped down on such institutes. With this move, genuine students will suffer," said Premchand Palety, the chief executive of Centre for Forecasting and Research, an organisation that does annual ranking of B-schools.

AICTE is already slugging it out with management institutes in the high courts of Delhi [ Images ], Mumbai and Orissa, where cases challenging its guidelines on fees, admissions and course curriculum of B-schools have been filed.

Last month, the Bombay High Court offered an interim relief to a group of 52 B-schools and allowed them to go ahead with admissions.
