Hi The story is titled 'There Will Come soft Rains' The house is placed in the middle of nowhere where everything around it was destroyed by a nuclear bomb. The two main characters in the story are the house itself and the fire. These characters are unusual since they are not human beings that have feeling or thoughts like in other stories. The setting of the story is in a house which is located in the middle of a destructed area with no humans. This setting is important since the house’s robots work everyday normally as if humans were still present when they are actually not. The story takes place in a futuristic house in the year 2026. In this particular house, no humans are present, only robots which clean and take care of the house. These robots are not aware that humans are not in the house anymore, thus, they continue to do their every day job such as washing, preparing the food, and etc. Later, a tree falls and causes a fire to explode in the house. The house robots try to fight the fire away but no water is available since it was used to clean up bathrooms and fill the bath tub. Hence, the fire takes over and burns the house into ashes and only one wall remains. The poem "There Will Come Soft Rains" is an important part of the story since it represents the whole short story by Bradbury in general. The poem states that nobody would care if human kind “perished utterly” and that is exactly what happens in the story. The robots in the house continue to do their everyday jobs and continue to live their robotic lives even though humans are not present anymore.
