I don't know the advantages of "ragulu java", but to reduce weight you got to move and watch how much and what you eat. Food gives us energy, and that energy is needed to be used. The unused energy becomes the fat. So why not think using that energy instead!

Ragulu is in telgu right & in english it is called as Millet

If you were stuck on an island somewhere and had nothing but millet to cook and eat, you would be very well fed but also very bored.

Millet is an exotic grain that Americans mostly feed to birds. The small, round grain is familiar to us, but not as people food.

Millet can usually be purchased as people food in health food stores and sometimes in grocery stores that feature a bulk food section.

One of the oldest known grains to man, millet has a very high quality of protein - 15%. Millet is highly nutritious, non-glutinous and like buckwheat and quinoa, is not an acid forming food so is soothing and easy to digest. In fact, it is considered to be one of the least allergenic and most digestible grains available and it is a warming grain so will help to heat the body in cold or rainy seasons and climates.

Millet is tasty, with a mildly sweet, nut-like flavor and contains a myriad of beneficial nutrients. It is nearly 15% protein, contains high amounts of fiber, B-complex vitamins including niacin, thiamin, and riboflavin, the essential amino acid methionine, lecithin, and some vitamin E. It is particularly high in the minerals iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.

The seeds are also rich in phytochemicals, including Phytic acid, which is believed to lower cholesterol, and Phytate, which is associated with reduced cancer risk.

Millet is delicious as a cereal and can be used successfully in many creations, from salads to desserts.

To cook millet, you can use various methods.

If you soak the millet first, you will cut the cooking time by 10 minutes. A mild nutty flavor is enhanced by lightly toasting the grains in a dry pan before cooking. Cooking the grain with the ratio of 1 to 3 will give you a dry fluffy product while cooking it 1-4 will give a denser wetter product appropriate for use in blending for sauces and gravies. The grain will take about 30-40 minutes to cook and be ready for use.

Millet flour produces nice pastries with a smooth buttery crust. Up to 30% can be added to whole wheat bread to produce a nice texture and add to the nutrition value of the bread.

Rao,

Below is the information you were looking for ragulu java:

RAGI

Elucine Coracana (Botanical Name), Ragi (Hindi, Urdu, Kanda), Kelvaragu (Tamil), Nachani (Marathi), Mandina (Oriya), Ragulu or Chollu (Telagu), Koovasagu (Malayalam).

Ragi is also known as finger millet. It constitutes a little over 25% of food grains grown in India. It is widely consumed in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu States practically without refining by the poorer sector of the population. They consume in the form of “Ragi Ball” and unleavened bread. The floor is put in boiling water and evenly mixed then the thick paste is rolled in the form of balls. Ragi ball is mixed with butter milk or with liquid curry of vegetables or pulses. Some times Ragi flour is used to make gruel, malt, dosa and porridge. Ragi malt is very nutritious for children and weak people.

Prolonged digestion of Ragi meal helps labourers to work longer times.

Nutritional Values

It is rich in cellulose or dietary fibre. Therefore its regular use is an excellent laxative for chronic constipation.

It is rich in calcium and iron. In fact it is the richest source of these minerals among all cereals.

The major proteins of ragi are prolamins and glutelins and they appear to be adequate in all essential amino acids, It contains B vitamin but is poor in B2.

Healing Properties

* Ragi meal is an Ideal food for diabetes and obese because its digestion is slow and glucose is released from the intestines very slowly into the blood. By eating ragi preparations the constant desire to eat will become less and supplies less calories for obese people. * Due to its rich cellulose it is excellent laxative for constipation. * Malt is a good food for children and supplies calcium in good proportions for bone growth and body development. * Ragi malt or Ragi preparation foods are good to eat in case of iron deficiency anaemia. * Its regular use protects from malnutrition, degenerative diseases, premature old age and increases longevity. * Eating roasted green ragi is a tonic for high blood pressure, liver diseases, heart weakness, asthma and lack of milk production in mother after child birth.

Disadvantage- excess use of Ragi preparations increases oxalic acid, hence it is contraindicated in persons suffering from urinary calculi. Source: http://www.naturalhealthcure.org/fo…

Rao,

Ragi can be incorporated in our diet to manage obesity.

Finger millet is known as Ragi, Ragulu in Telugu, Taidalu in Telangana, Kezhvaragu in Tamil etc.

The Latin name of Ragi is Elusine Indica. Ragi is a traditional crop of South India. Ragi is more superior to rice or wheat in nutritional terms, being rich in proteins, providing highest levels of calcium, antioxidants properties, phytochemicals and high levels of dietary fibre which makes it easily and slowly digestable(hence helps control blood glucose levels in diabetics very effectively). The bulkiness of the fiber and the slower digestion rate makes us feel fuller on fewer calories, and therefore may help prevent us from eating excess calories.

Millet grains holds the key to a healthy, wholesome diet and has a better balance of vitamins and minerals than wheat, barley, oats, rice or rye.Ragi has amazing amounts of iron, Vitamin B, complex protein, amino acids, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium.

Ragi can be incorporated in our diet to manage obesity.

You can take Ragi Roti and a small cup of low fat milk for dinner every day regularly.

Preparation of Ragi floor :

Wash ragi thoroughly and soak it in fresh water for 24 hours. The next day pack the ragi in a thin cotton cloth and place it on a dish. Keep something heavy or weighed on the cereal packed in cloth. Let it remain for 24 hours. The third day you can see the sprouts coming up in the seeds.

Dry roast the sprouted ragi on a girdle (tawa). Grind it into a fine powder.

Preparation of Ragi Roti :

Take 1/2 cup of Ragi floor and one onion. (chop onion finely). Add enough water to make a firm dough. Make the dough into small lemon sized ball.

Take a plantain leaf or plastic foil and place the small lemon sized Ragi ball on it and flatten with your fingers spreading it as thin as possible into a circular shape of approx 6? in diameter.Pre-heat the griddle spreading a tsp of oil and carefully transfer the rolled out ragi roti onto the griddle.

Cook for about a minute, flip and cook for another minute.Keep flipping till its well cooked on both sides. Serve hot.

Some more weight loss ideas:

The two-point program that will ensure the ultimate success for losing weight is: regular exercise and balanced diet.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Drinking eight glasses of water is almost like a must. And do not forget to drink water in the morning, the moment you wake up. In fact this is one of the most rapid weight loss tips that the dieticians suggest to the people.

Have organic foods for the breakfast like apples, bananas, plain yogurt, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, raw honey, wild smoked salmon, and so on.

Keeping a track on the watch, go for an hour walk. It need not be power walking, but definitely it should be non-stop walk and that’s for sure, in a couple of days only, you’ll start finding the difference in you.

Another tip regarding how to lose weight fast, easy and safe is that you should have your dinner about 4-5 hours before going off to sleep.

Don’t depend upon fat burning diet supplements. They wont go a long way in helping you sustain your reduced kilos.

Soft drinks cannot benefit you in any way. They contain 150 empty calories, so if you substitute one bottle of soft drink with water each day, it will do wonders for you. It will enable you to lose about 16 lbs per year.

Sometimes boredom becomes a cause of overeating, so keep yourself busy.

If you want to seriously control your weight, then you have to stop yourself from getting lured into trying tempting foods.

As important is to pay attention to the fact that we eat the right food, equally vital is to keep a watch on the quantity.

Without altering your diet plan, even if you’ll reduce 5-10% of your consumption, it will prove beneficial.

Eat slowly so that you can get a feeling that you have had enough food and your tummy is full. Eat slowly and fully relish the taste.
