Online Status shows 'pending police enquiry', now i need the passport urgently because , i need to go overseas. Can any one advise me , is there a way to expidete the whole process. So that i can get back my passport ASAP. Does the re-issue requires a police enquiry?because recently , i went to passport office for enquiry , they say police enquiry is not required for re-issue.

hi go to the hyderabad passport office and give an application mentioning that you have to go abroad and a renewal as you are told does not require and tell them to expedite the process. If they want it can be done in two days time. hope for the best , you will get your passport within a week .write an application.

Police verifcation for reissue of passport is not carried out.Some times they do get it done in case they have some doubt or if it was not carried out while issuing first passport.In your case you should meet the passport officer and show him the documents.Seeing your genuineness and urgency he will definitely help you.

Anil,

I think your passport is delayed since there has been a lot of changes at the Passport Office around the country during Feburary 2011. However, you have applied for it almost 3 months ago and it must have arrived by now.

If the status is showing, pending Police verification, please visit your local police station and meet the Constable who does the verification. At times, if the constable is busy with something else, then he could not come around to check your address and ID proof.

Yes, indeed, Police Enquiry is not needed for Reissue. Call the Helpline 1800 258 1800.

In the case of address change only, the passport enquiry will get delay,and must police enquiry. If that is not cause in your case, no need to police enquiry,go to passport office, ask about your passport status.Otherwise WITHDRAW your application. but apply ASAP for renewal.

Reissue of passport also requires police enquiry. So I guess you need to wait until the enquiry is done. You can also send a complaint to the Chief Passport Officer at Tel: 91-11-23384519,23384497,Fax:23384461 Email: ********@*****.*** and to the PRO Public Grievances at Tel: 91-11-23384519, 23384497 Fax:23384461 Email:********@*****.***.

Tatkaal Scheme

OUT OF TURN ISSUE OF PASSPORT UNDER TATKAAL SCHEME

(A) If an applicant desires to obtain his passport under the Tatkal Scheme, a verification certificate as per the specimen at ANNEXURE ‘F’ and standard affidavit as Annexure “I” should be submitted along with the TATKAAL fee. The Passport Issuing Authority shall retain the right to verify in writing the authenticity of the Verification Certificate from the official who has issued it. All applicants seeking a passport out of turn under the TATKAAL Scheme are advised to submit their application, documentation, colour photographs with white or light background and fee as specified below. No proof of urgency is required for Out-of-Turn issue of passport. Post Police Verification shall be done in respect of all passports issued under the Tatkaal Scheme.

(B) The applicant also has the option to obtain a passport under Tatkal Scheme on submission of three documents from the Fourteen documents as mentioned below, provided one of the three documents is a photo identity document and atleast one of the three is amongst the documents indicated at (a) to (i) and a standard affidavit (Annexure “I”) on non-judicial stamp paper duly attested by a Notary:

(a) Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC);

(b) Service Identity Card issued by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, local bodies or Public Limited Companies;

(c) SC/ST/ OBC Certificates;

(d) Freedom Fighter Identity Cards;

(e) Arms Licenses;

(f) Property Documents such as Pattas, Registered Deeds etc.;

(g) Rations Cards;

(h) Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment order, ex-servicemen’s Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, Widow Pension Order;

(All above documents to be produced in original along with self-attested copies)

The TATKAAL fee is in addition to the applicable passport fee and payable either in cash or DD in favor of Passport Officer concerned. The additional fee for out of turn TATKAAL passport, would be as follows:

Re-issue cases after expiry of 10 years validity 1. Within 3 working days of the date of application Rupees 1,500/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/- Tatkal Passport Services What is “Tatkaal” Service and which categories of applicants are eligible to apply under the Tatkaal Scheme? Tatkaal Service is a scheme available to passport applicants who need their passports urgently out-of-turn. Applications accepted under this scheme will be processed outside the line of applications dictated by the “first in – first out” principle which is central to the working of all passport offices in the country. We have an upper limit on the number of Tatkaal passports that can be produced on a given day, due to constraints of staff and equipment. We need a margin of a minimum of 4-5 working days between the date of your Tatkaal submission and the required data of delivery. Requests for delivery in 1-2 days will not be considered sympathetically, except in cases of medical emergencies.

Depending on the status of your police verification, the passport-issuing authority could grant a full-validity passport (10 years) or a short validity passport (1 or 2 years), in response to Tatkaal requests.

Approaching our Counter is the only way to get passports urgently/out-of-turn (before your passport becomes due for delivery under our "first in – first out" procedure). Sending e-mails or faxes requesting dispatch of passports “on priority” does not help, as it contravenes the “first in – first out” principle. Only in cases the particular series of files has already been despatched, will e-mail/fax requests be considered, as part of our grievance redressal mechanism.

The following are the categories of applicants eligible to apply under the Tatkaal Scheme:

· Patients going abroad for medical treatment.

· Persons traveling abroad due to death of a close relative

· Students appearing in examinations such as SAT, GRE.

· Students going abroad to join foreign universities.

· Businessmen going abroad urgently for trade, conference, trade fairs etc.

· Blood relative of a person residing abroad who is seriously ill.

· Close relatives of individuals working abroad.

· Winners of promotional awards and schemes foreign travel is a prize or incentive.

· Spouse of official passport holders going abroad and availing companion ticket.

· Individuals wishing to go abroad to attend marriage of close relatives.

· Pilgrimages and travels for religious purposes

· For marriage or honeymoon after marriage

How do I apply for a passport directly under Tatkaal scheme and what is the fee applicable?

a) Submit Form No. 1 duly filled-in.

b) For fresh passports under Tatkaal, a Verification Certificate (VC) should be enclosed. (This is, however, not necessary, if your passport was issued at Shimla, and is still valid, or has expired less than a year ago). (To download the format of a VC, please click here

c) Attach documentary proof of urgency

d) A request in writing for urgent issue of a passport

e) Join the queue for normal submissions for fresh passports/re-issue.

f) At the time of submission, inform the official regarding your need to apply for a passport under Tatkaal.
