Query from: Sagar, New Delhi, 08/13/10
Topic: CAREER ADVICE      Submitted on: Ammas.com
Subject: medicine

i have been working as a medical transcriptionist for the last 10 years in Delhi. i came in this field whimsically, better to say to, make some pocket money, but gradually my salary is getting higher and I adhered to this field. but now i really feel that i have made a blunder that i did not chose any "main stream" (other than BPO) as it is one type of BPO, and what my perception is, maybe its is a better paying sector, but still it has not become a carrier to go for it.

I am 35 year now, but still I feel there must be something for me, which I can chose, which will give me my job satisfaction as well as good pay.

My qualification is I am a simple graduate. Please suggest is there any academic course, vocational course, anything, which i can start. But right now, i cannot give up my job, as it is my bread and butter. i will change my profession gradually.

Hi Sagar,

Its often common that we get bored with our current job / profession and look for a change. For example I am also a graduate started my career as a sales executive 7 yrs back for a salary of INR 1,250 today I am at a level of Senior Manager drawing nearly 1.5lac INR per month, but even I too feel to change my field and getting bored with current profession.

At the age of 35 I am sure that you must be in the same field for more than 10 years as I belive that you may started your career at the age of 21years or 22 as you are a graduate. I am sure getting this kind of experiance in another field will take you longer time & either you or me can not assure if you can become succeed in that new profession. I believe that you need a break for some time and need resr, will suggest you to take leave for couple of months and to enjoy with your family like I did when I got bored then everything will be fine. All the best

Hi Sagar, If you have certain knowledge in the field of medical science then you can go for any hospital Management or Pharmacy related course through correspondence. You can also choose computer field but you should do correspondence course of PGDCA/MCA through universities offering them.

As a medical transcriptionist, you have gained a vast experience of 10 years, so it is better to stick to this profession. If you are bored with this at present which is very common to many people, you should rather take leave for a couple of days & visit a near by tourist place for recreation. But never give up the job. You should remember that there are many people who are not satisfied with their jobs but have to continue their jobs for their families. If posible you may try for any course in hospital management which will be better for you at this stage.Mind it, you have to go a long way.

Sagar, everyone gets bored of their current job. They think something other than this is made for you that can give to job satisfaction. We all think its a blunder to carry on with the same job for so many yrs.

Take a vacation.

Or u can carry with current job and take course of your interest, just for peaceful mind. Do not change jobs, as the seniority that u earned in current job will become useless in another job. After 5 yrs, then again ur mindset is filled with boredum and again you try to seek another new career.

This is common in everyone life, but changing jobs is not a good option in over populated country like ours.
