Query from: RHS, Australia, 01/30/10
Topic: CAREER      Submitted on: Ammas.com
Subject: Need a career in non-IT sector in India

I am looking for a job in India in non-IT sector. I have already posted my resume on popular job sites and do get queries. Majority of such queries are placement agencies increasing their data base while others want a face to face interview which is not practical finance and time wise. Could you please suggest more realistic approach to this situation.

Hi, RHS.

The best way you can do is as follows:

1. The area of Non - IT is quite huge. Its best that you identify the field you're aspiring for.

2. Taking help from internet, look at the companies which have operations in India and find out their websites.

3. Look for the "Contact Us" tab on their website and get the contact information. From there, get the relevant direct contact of the organization.

4. Talk to them over phone (or email them) and I am sure these efforts will pay you.

I have personally tried this technique for campus placements and the success rate is as high as 10%.

Good luck and revert back in case of any queries.

Search for the companies in the Internet and apply directly to HR. You can find contact details under CONTACT US or CAREERS section on their websites.

And seek for telephonic interview or online interview.

As of now there are very few companies who do online and telephonic interviews.

Well, the query does not really tell much about the kind of job and the industry of interest. On a generic level, from Australia, it would be pretty difficult getting a job in India, considering you do not have much of a work experience. if you do have, try and applying on the websites of the companies of your interest. Do some research, and contact reputed placement agencies, and/or HR agencies. You may also try and make a brand of yourself by working as a freelancer (depending on the work profile you intend to have). Try and create a network of people who are interested in Indian jobs, like you, in or outside Australia, so that you can collaborate and share information to help each other out.

Hello, are you a Australian citizen looking to get work in India, or are you an Indian citizen wanting to get back to India and hence want to find work, visa wise it makes a huge difference.

The first step would be to find Australian companies having a base in India........... for this you can use the websites and do research...... and approach them in Australia itself and then ask them to post you in India. For this you have approach them with your resume, contact them via phone, fax, email, etc. Network and find a posting to India...........For this some research is necessary...........but may be the best way out, the company would handle your visa requirements and it may want to post you here and then after some time you can look for better options locally in India once you get here.

The other alternative is to do some short term education/ program, during which time you can look around for a job in India..............

The third way is the one you have suggested non face to face application and try to network into Indian companies for a job offer. Unless you are able to clearly sell your talents, or present outstanding achievements, the Indian company would find it difficult to hire you and get your visa done for work in India.....

You could present yourself as a marketeer to Indian companies wanting to set base in Australia...........but even if you are located in India, then most of your work would be based in Australia.............this may not help...

Try to get a foot in, through education, or otherwise and then find your niche job opening while spending time in India..............
