A number of things can cause excessive hair loss. For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary.

Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.

Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again.

Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.

Certain infections can cause hair loss. Fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss in children. The infection is easily treated with antifungal medicines.

Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be treated.

Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available. If a medicine is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine. Recognizing and treating an infection may help stop the hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss.

So before embarking on any hair treatment, it is very very important to recognise or find out what is causing this hairloss, only then a proper remedy can be suggested.

First of all I suggest consulting a dermatologist for proper treatment.

Below are some basic information regarding hair fall hopping this will help you.

Hair lost is one of the common problems among all of us. All hairs are shed at the end of their growth cycle, so some degree of hair loss is normal. If you have excessive hair loss, it makes sense to first understand the possible causes. There are many possible causes of hair loss, however most hair loss is normal, and part of each person's genetic program.

The most common type of hair loss is related to both genetic and hormonal make up, and is called androgen-dependent hair loss. About 50% of children with a balding parent of either sex will themselves become bald over a period of time. If the hair fall is related to genetic then we can do much with it.

Moreover the basic cause of hair fall may be different from person to person Hair fall may due to some disease or inadequate nutrition. An important cause of hair weakness or loss is inadequate nutrition. Even a partial lack of almost any nutrient may affect hair. Hair loss is also related to both genetic and hormonal make up, and is called androgen-dependent hair loss. Stress, such as worry, anxiety and sudden shock leads to a severe tension in the skin of the scalp. This adversely affects the supply of essential nutrition required for the healthy growth of hair.

Long-standing illnesses like typhoid, syphilis, chronic cold, influenza and anemia, also gives rise to hair disorders. It makes the roots of the hair weak, resulting in falling of hair. An unclean condition of the scalp can also cause loss of hair. This weakens the hair roots by blocking the pores with the collected dirt.

The healthy condition of the hair depends, to a very large extent, on the intake of sufficient amounts of essential nutrients in the daily diet. Hair is made of keratin, a protein. Protein it is supplied by milk, buttermilk, yogurt, soybean, eggs, cheese, meat and fish. Women require 60 grams, men 80 to 90 grams, adolescent boys and girls 80 to 100 grams of protein. A deficiency of some of the B vitamins, iron, zinc, copper and iodine may cause hair disorders like falling of hair, dryness and premature graying of hair.

Persons having any kind of hair problem should thus take a well balanced diet. An adequate quantity of vegetables seeds, nuts green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, egg and milk should be included in their diet regularly.

Here are some tips for hair heath:

1. In custom oil for hair one is Mustard oil, we can apply it in pure form or can mix it with coriander oil to increase it effectiveness. Mover if boiled with little henna leaves, is useful in promoting healthy growth of hair. Regular massage of the head with this oil will produce abundant hair.

2. Application of coconut oil on hair is also very effective. if mixed with limewater and limejuice will prevents loss of hair and lengthens it. Moreover application of coconut milk all over the scalp and massaging it into the hair roots will nourish the hair and promote hair growth.

3. Application of the coriander oil or juice of green coriander leaves on the head is also beneficial for hair growth.

4. Amla oil, prepared by boiling dry amla pieces in coconut oil, is considered a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth. A mixture of equal quantities of fresh amla juice and lime juice used as a shampoo stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss.

5. Castor oil is also very effective for hair growth. Regular use of castor oil as a hair oil helps the luxuriant growth of the hair.

6. Washing the hair with a paste of cooked black gram dhal, (urad dhal) and fenugreek (methi) lengthens the hair. A fine paste made from pigeon pea or red gram (arhar dhal) can also be applied regularly on bald patches, with beneficial results.

7. The seeds of lime and black pepper seeds, ground to a fine paste, is very good remedies. This paste applied on the patches, has a mildly irritant action. This increases blood circulation to the affected area and stimulates hair growth. The paste should be applied twice a day for a few weeks.

8. Take handful of fresh henna leaves, fresh fenugreek leaves, fresh Indian gooseberries and orange peel. Mix these all with coconut oil. Boil till the leaves leave their original color. It is very effective remedy for dull hair.

9. Massage of the scalp with the fingers, after washing the hair with cold water is also very effective for hair growth. The scalp should be rubbed vigorously till it starts to tingle with heat. This will activate the sebaceous glands and energize the circulation of blood in the affected area, making hair growth healthy.

Eat lots of paneer, spinach (palak), green veggies and milk.

Regularly oil and shampoo your hair. That's a must at least three times a week, to nourish your scalp. Applied oil must be washed within 24 hours or else it could mix with dust and clog the pores.

Henna is also a good scalp conditioner, but not a good hair conditioner as it tends to make the hair dry and brittle. Hence you must use oil after washing off the henna, before shampooing.

Washing your hair after a session of rigorous exercise like gymming, jogging etc when the scalp tends to sweat a lot is a must.

Once in a while chemical treatments like perming, chemical straightening etc are alright, but too much of it causes breakage of hair.

Another reason for hair getting damaged is heat exposure to the hair and scalp, with a blow-dryer, hot oil or hot water and usings combs with sharp teeth.

Never comb your hair when it is wet. Towel drying is the best way to dry your hair.

Why does hair fall?

Lack of hair oil, acute illness, dandruff, emotional shock or stress, thyroid problems, nutritional deficiency and hair colouring, sans the correct regime to go with it.

Stress is a major cause of hair loss. The cure for this is simple -- learn to live a relaxed life through regular meditation, occasional massages, music, yoga and prayers, which are all excellent stress busters.

Washing, Combing, Drying :

First and foremost, always comb your hair gently to prevent breakage. Hair is at its weakest when wet. So never brush your hair when wet. As far as possible let your hair dry naturally. Use dryers only when you are pressed for time or when you want to set them for an occasion.

Detangle your hair before you wash it. Wet hair is very fragile so brush your hair thoroughly before getting into the shower.

Oiling and shampoos :

Oil your hair at least twice a week or for a day before washing. Oil really does wonders for your hair; coating each strand and making it shine. Besides oil massage also increases the circulation in the scalp and promotes hair growth. Avoid using harsh shampoos and conditioners as they can harm your hair and make them dry. Tackle dandruff with good antidandruff shampoos. Most of all try to keep your hair clean and do not expose it to strong wind, dust and pollution.

Taking care naturally :

Here are some easy home recipes for good growth of hair.

Wash and clean a bunch of Methi leaves in water. Without adding water, add black pepper, a few drops of lemon and salt to taste and boil. Churn this in a mixer or juicer and drink this concoction. Drinking this regularly will increase hair growth.

Eat pieces of coconut or if you get cough because of coconut, have jaggery instead. Also include coconut in your daily food like dals, vegetables, etc.

Half an hour before washing your hair, rub coconut milk onto your scalp. This will also make your hair shinier.

Just as you massage oil, massage raw milk in your hair. Wash off after an hour.

Cashewnuts are very nutritious and good for your skin and also enhance hair growth. Drink coconut water atleast twice a week. It is good for your skin, digestive system and really a miracle ingredient for your hair.

Heat olive oil and massage into hair and then take steam. By doing this regularly you will get rid of split-ends.

Make a paste of jaggery, curd, and Multanni mitti and apply on scalp an hour before shampooing to get rid of dandruff. Take this treatment once in 15 days.

Hi Shanthi,

The solution to hairfall always depends on what is causing it,hairfall is due to dandruff, due to use of harsh chemicals ,stress or just lack of nutrition. So depending on your problem type the solutions are as follows; Dandruff-Use hair tonic instead of oil always.Oil only increases dandruff.Hair tonics available in all leading brands in the market. As for eradicating dandruff, try using beer on hair and then rinse it ,it acts as a conditioner and helps in reducing dandruff. You can also try using sour curd on hair ,leave it fo some time and then rinse ,this will be sticky ,smelly..but most effective. You can either of these both once a week till you get results.Since these are natural so they dont harm your hair. Harsh chemicals-The solution is simple ,use herbal or home made shampoos.Pls see below link for further help. http://www.101lifestyle.com/beauty/… Stress-Lead healthy lifestyle, exercise, sleep well and eat well and your hair will reflect the same.

Lack of nutrition-Seafood is excellent for hair, so if you enjoy fish, eat it regularly. All leafy greens help. Massage with hair tonic once a week.Avoid using hair dryer, let hair dry naturally.Use only mild herbal shampoos

Lack of vitamins too can lead to hair loss and pre-mature greying of hair. Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables primarily leafy vegetables will help curb hair loss. Spinach (palak) and fenugreek (methi) are strongly recommended for healthy hair. Indian gooseberry (amla) and mangoes are hair-friendly fruit that one must eat in abundance (go easy on the mangoes though).

Beat two eggs and add two tablespoons of water to it. Wet the hair and apply the egg mixture over the hair. Now massage your scalp and let the mixture on for ten minutes to fifteen minutes. Then rinse the hair with lukewarm water.

Regular massage of fresh amla mashed to a paste will do wonders. The application of this paste will improve the colour of hair (delay the process of greying), prevent your hair from falling and moreover has a cooling effect on the entire system. Hi, Apply warm coconut oil andmassage on the scalp . Then apply this oil till the ends of your hair (from root to the tips). After this dip your towel in hot water (that which would be bearable) and then tie it on your hair. Keep it for sometime. If possible repeat this procedure. This helps the oil to penetrate into the roots of the hair. Moreover it helps in a good blood circulation in the areas near the scalp and helps in good growth of your hair. Then wash it with oil based shampoo. Your problem of dry hair will get solved. http://www.ultimate-cosmetics.com/b…
