Geeta,

Lemon lamps are often lit for Goddess Durga and Amman. You can pray any Goddess you wish, either Durga, any form of Parvathi, Saraswathi or Mahalakshmi .

Making a Lemon lamp :

1.Take a lemon, press it on floor or any hard surface few times to make it become less harder.

2.Cut the lemon in two halves.

3.Take off all the juice by pressing in a cup , make sure all the flesh is completely off .

4.Invert the lemon gently in such a way that it makes a cup like structure where u can pour oil or ghee. sometimes, the lemon will create a whole in center which must not be used.Thats why u have to buy extra lemons.

5.Then take 2 wicks , Pour oil or ghee and light it.

6.You can pour extra oil or ghee while doing prayers, if u want the lamps to continue burning .sometimes the lemon it self will start to burn because of over head.

Hello, I thought this was possible only on Tuesday, during Rahu kalam from 3 to 4 30 pm. During this time, one can do Lalitha Sahasranamam, or Mangadu Kamakshi amman slokam, etc.

Cut the lemon into 2 equal halves. Squeeze out the juice into a cup, I normally prepare lemon rice out of the juice and offer it as naivyaidyam. Turn the lemon portions, both of them, upside down, the inner part of the lemon should face the ground. Keep it in a plate( clean), you need two jyoti thiris (wicks) You can make it out of cotton, should be heavy in the bottom (round) and pointed like a needle upwards. You can put oil into the two upside down lemon portions, I put ghee into them, some people use Til oil, or I - nai/oil (combn of five oils/ghee) available in Chennai, and then light the fire in the two wicks, let it burn for an hr and a half, when you are doing slokams. Offer naivyadyuam, namaskarams.

At the end some people join the two jyotis (cotton which is burning ) with the help of a holder into one big ball of fire and let it die down. Others let the two jyotis burn separately and die out. Then offer naivyadyam and namaskarams. One can also offer lemon malais in temple or at home , ( the no of lemon should be odd 11/13 etc. you can make the garland with needle and thread)

I supppose if you are asked to do on Monday, you have to do between 7.30 to 9.a.m. (rahu kalam) for devi amman. Good luck!

Lemon lamp is to lit and prayed for the removal of worries.

lighting lemon lamp:

cut lemon into half and queeze juice and make sure all the flesh is completely off . reverse it in such a way that it makes a cup like structure where u can pour oil or ghee and keep one day for dry or keep for sundry for sometime and can pour ghee or seseme oil in it and drop small wicks(cotton vathulu we can in telugu) in it and lit the lamp in that half lemon pieces.

You can pour extra oil or ghee while doing prayers, if u want the lamps to continue burning .sometimes the lemon it self will start to burn because of over head.sometimes, the lemon will create a whole in center which must not be used.Thats why u have to buy extra lemons when u want to lit lemom lamps.

devotees who light lemon lamps with pure devotion gain blessings of Goddess Saraswathi, Ganesha, Lord Murugan , Lord Shiva and Shirdi saibaba

ten minutes earlier to the rahukala, keeping the form of Durga in mind, the form of Omkar or swasthic is made on the floor with rice flour. A plantain leaf is placed over it to lit the split and inverted lemon lamp in ghee or gingili oil. For offering flowers around the lamp represented by Durga, keep the necessary akshatha, flowers, camphor, sandal stick, etc. on the right side of the lamp conveniently. On starting the pooja the lemon lamps are lit from the main floor lamp before the decorated Devi or gods photos . The aim of the pooja is to get over the astrologically bad times and to ensure the unity and prosperity in the family.
