hi Ranjini. Navratri is begin from 4th october means from today. for navratri some people will do one type of food vrat or one time eating food or you can eat fasting food also like sago or tapioca.

you cannot eat any Nonveg for 9 days not even eggs or any kind of egg food like cake ,pastry or anything else. If you are very good faster than you can do for 9 days without eating any food but instead of that you can eat fasting food, like sago, rajagira means waterchestnut flour,or fasting rice .

But i would like to suggest you that you are not used to this so starting do one time eating food vrat for 9 days then next year you can do some chanages. In My home navratri is very big festival I am also having navratri vrat my mother also do the same vratam for 9 days without eating food .

Ranjini for these you have to do so many ristriction in all ways like marrital relationship And also you have to be clean like no menstrual.if your periods coem fast not puja. Durga's vrat am is very hard. you have to sleep in couch or floor not in bed. this is real version of navratri vratam. But if you are in US i hope it is hard to do all those ristrictions but believe me I am doing those so I hope you can try .

Ashtami day put the rice, bangles, new blouse piece, andkumkum, haldi to godess in any temple, and navami dat take prasad of temple and then leave the fast on navami day. Ashtami is biggest day in navratri it's for soubhgyavati and mothers. If you have any question please let me know best luck and happy navratri. don't eat spicy things and don't wear black colour dress on navratri.

Navratri Fast Navratri Fasts are observed for nine days twice a year. This fast is observed mostly in North India, Gujarat and Maharastra. The devotion and fevour is the same all over only a few variations may be seen in diffrent regions.

Special Food to be Eaten During The Fasts You have to follow a strict control over the food consumed during these nine days. The food should be cooked after having a bath and performing Pooja.

We can eat Puris or Roti's made from Kuttu or Singhare ka atta This is black in colour. We can eat potatoes, cucumber, pumpkin and shakarkandi. Of course potatoes are most popular as people have them as chips and make aloo chaat.

Most spices are not used and it is reccomended to eat rock salt. Milk products are allowed so we can eat plenty of curd, paneer, sweets such as kalakand, kaju burfee etc. Sil ladoo's and patti is also eaten.

A rice substitute is swank and people cook it as a rice or even use it to make sweet kheer. All types of fruits are eaten and fruit chaat is made.

Do's and Dont's Do not eat meat or any other non-vegetaarian food. Do not eat food with garlic or onions.

Hi, You can eat one time light meal and fruits. No eating onion, garlic. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/783… The first three nights are dedicated to the goddess of action and energy. Her different manifestations viz Kumari, Parvati and Kali are worshipped during these days. They represent the three natures/ classes of womanhood - the virgin young girl, auspicious wife/ mother and the angry old hag ! This is not a criticism of women, just a classification. It helps us recognise the different aspects of our own nature.

Lakshmi is worshipped for the next three days in her various aspects as the goddesses of peace, plenty and bliss. Fulfilment is more important than wealth itself. As the goddess of wealth, she governs not just the bank balance, but also such basic things as family, friends, food etc. (read my article on wealth on my site.)

Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge. Not just the knowledge of how to earn a living, but how to "live" aswell. She is the goddess of the spiritual knowledge and the knowledge that frees us from this bind of Samsara. She is worshipped during the final three days of the Navratri.

The nine nights are there for us to revel in the knowledge of the goddesses that live within us, imbibing us with their spiritual energy and power. Used for the good, they help liberate us from the mire of this world. Use these energies unwisely, and they will snare us in the maya of this world. We should meditate of these aspects of the nine nights, that was the reason they originally came into being.
