Please follow this advice and do the Fasting and Puja for Lord Ganesha. This advice was given by Advisor Vasuki Jaisankar of ammas.com

You can Perform Pooja for Lord Ganesha by reciting the Vinayaka Astottara Shatanamavali Pooja and do your fasting. After taking head bath and before having your food do this pooja. On the day of fasting you can have one meal . You can substitute your dinner with the prasadam that you prepare for God or you can have friuts or milk.

You can download Vinayaka Astottara Shatanamavali from this site

Satanamavali is is nothing but praising lord by his different names. Start with the following sloka and then do the pooja.

Sankatahara Chaturthi Vrata occurs during the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha, every month.

The Vratha starts before sun-rise and lasts until moon-rise just before mid-night. This is observed in order to overcome difficulties and problems.

You have to fast for the whole day and break the fast after having the darshan of Lord Moon and worshiping Lord Ganesh. This vow is observed to get rid of problems in life.

On the Sankashti day chant the Ganesha Ashtothara and bow to the lord 21 times either in the morning or at night just before the moon rise however convenient.

If one cannot utter the 108 names due to shortage of time or any reason, they can chant Sri Sankata Nasana Ganesha Stotram

During the fasting period you can take Fruits, etc

To do the Puja :

Decorate the photo of Lord Ganesh with available flowers.

At night just before moon rise prepare prasadam and chant the Ashtothra, the Sankata Nasana Ganesha Stotram (either both or only the Sankata Nasana Ganesha Stotram however convinient).

Please see these links for Sri Sankata Nasana Ganesha Stotram and Sri Ganesha Astottara shatanamavali

Offer 2 coconuts, banana, flowers to the Lord, also offer some fragrance sticks, offer the prasad prepared and then Aarathi also. Sing the song Jaya dev jaya dev and ask for his blessings.

You can find Sri Ganapathi Aarti in

Regarding moon rise, sometimes due to the clouds etc., moon may not be visible at the specified time. In that case after the moon rise timings one may perform the puja. Modaks can also be prepared

Its good that u have decided to pray my favourite lord Ganesh.I would suggest you not to keep any fast as such, be 100% vegeterian, start it from a tuesday falling in the shukla paksa.Offer rice puddings mixed with jaggery or sugar, if u cant make it just offer hibiscus flower the red one and some durva(grass) and pray.

Also chant OM GAM GANAPATHAYE NAMAH 108 times daily.

God bless u. Hariom.
