Why not? ? ? ?

In the Bhagavad Gita Bhagavan has said this :

( 10: 21)

“aham. . . jyothishaaam amsu-maan”

The simplest meaning of this is

: “among the lights seen in the skies I am the sun with its many rays”

In fact the first sloka in varaha mihira’s hora sastra ( which is the last word in Indian astrology) which addresses the Sun ( “ Moothituae parikalpitha .. . . “)says this :

“aathmae-ithi aathma vidu”

meaning is :those who knows of the aatma knows it (the sun) as the inner light.

“varthma-apunar janmanae”

meaning is : it (the sun)is the path to get freedom from re-birth .

Therefore it is clear that it is not the Sun in the sky that is addressed as such . It is the inner light , the light which gives the light of life to every living creature and lights up the whole world including the Sun.

As to what to offer please see sloka 26 of Chapter 9 Bhagvad Gita

Pathram Pushpam Phalam Thoyam Yoe mae bhaktia Prayachati That-aham bhakty-upahrutham-asnami prayath –aathmanaha

meaning is “If it is with great devotion And a clean mind (that ) someone Gives an offering to me (even if it is) a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water I (will ) receive It “ You can also see the explaination on : http://ifyousowish.googlepages.com/… Therefore it is not what u offer , but how u offer. The Sun in Indian Spirituality which includes astrology is not the Sun in the skies but as explained above

While performing Navagraha Shanti Puja each Graham or planet is specifically offered a particular grain, which after puja is fed to cows. These are: Sun--wheat; Moon—rice or paddy; Mars—red gram (tuar); Mercury—green gram; Jupiter—bengal gram;Venus—flat white beans (avarai); Saturn—black sesame; Rahu—black gram; Ketu—horse gram. It is also customary for the performer to wear specific precious stone jewelry for the Graham, whose benefits or evil ward-off are sought after, during Shanti Puja and also invoke the ruling deity of the planet: 1. Surya—Agni, fire god, Shiva; Red ruby stone.

hi

It is performed for the term Navagraha denotes the nine celestial bodies which are central to astrological calculations (and beliefs) (and not the nine planets as it is frequently erroneously translated). The sun, the moon, mars, mercury, jupiter, venus, saturn and the two shadow planets Rahu and Ketu constitute the Navagrahas. The nine "grahas" or planets in our horoscope control our karma, our desires and their outcomes. Each of these nine planets exerts an influence in our lives, which is called "dasa" and it can be known from one's horoscope. Navagraha Puja is undertaken to reduce the negative effects and improve the positive energies related to a person.

hese Grahas can be appeased by performing the Grah shanti Puja. There are 2 ways to perform this Puja. If you know which Graha is affecting you unfavorably, then tell us the name and we can perform the Puja for you. The other way is for us to find out from your Janma Patri and then perform the Puja for the particular Graha. specifically 7 1/2 years Saturn period. Generally all purpose Navagraha homam For all Doshas from Horoscope, specifically 7 1/2 years Saturn period. Generally all purpose. (For particular Jathaham, particular Gnahas more japas) * Is done to obtain navagrahas anugraha, even if they were placed in disadvantagious * By doing this homa, navagraha doshas are removed and good results will accrue.

hi,

To yield the best results from navagraha pooja, you have to perform the pooja as described in our veda rituals.it was already said you must use wheat for surya pooja and rice for moon pooja.

i advice you not to change any of these basic principles while doing these poojas. check with the nearby priest of nahagraha temple for any alternate pooja process.

good luck

Why do you want to change the ingredients of the navgraha pooja for sun. Wheat is easily available everywhenre. Substituting it with any other grain will be not ethical. The poojas vidhi should be performed as mentioned in our sagas. Respect what is written and do what is said. Changing to toher ingredient may cause any fear in your mind if something wrong happens. It's better to stick with wheat.

I've sent some information and links associated to Navgraha poojas. I hope it will be benefical for your further help.

Nava’ means nine. ’Graha’ means planets. As per Vedic Astrology, there are nine planets that influence our lives. The position of planet at the time of human birth will have influence on his actions and reaction to different situations in his life.

The following is the brief explanation about each graha and its influence on human kind.

Surya (Sun)

Surya or Sun is the most powerful living God - whom everyone can see, perceive and pray. Presiding deity of this planet is God Siva. Sun bestows good health and prosperity.

Chandra (Moon)

Moon is the planet, which rules over mind and gives success. Chandra or Moon is a lovable God - Pleasing to the children as well as elders, universally appealing to everyone whatever may be the religion. Goddess Parvathi rules the planet.

Moon is considered as very important planet for astrological predictions. The Moon, at the time of birth is found in a particular star and it will be taken as the star of the person born.

Kuja (Mars)

Mars is the planet, which gives prosperity and wealth. Angaraka or Mars is regarded as a God of martial character, red in every aspect. Even the Romans held him as their Guru. He is the Son of Earth and is ruled by Lord Subramanya.

Bhudha (Mercury)

Mercury is the planet which gives knowledge. Bhudha or Mercury is considered as the greatest among the wise. This Devata bestows wisdom and wealth on his devotees. He is ruled by Lord Maha Vishnu.

Guru (Jupiter)

Jupiter gives education and knowledge. Brihaspati is the Guru (Jupiter). He results in a cure from ailments and helps one cleanse his/her negative emotions and gives strength, valour, longevity, etc. He grants the boon of fatherhood to the childless, good education (Vidya). He is ruled by Lord Dakshinamurthy.

Sukra (Venus)

Venus gives the knowledge of art, music etc. Sukra or Venus is the bestower of long life, wealth, happiness, children, property and good education. He is ruled by Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Sani (Saturn)

Saturn gives happiness. Saniswara or Saturn, is generally known to affect one adversely on occasions when he occupies certain positions in one's horoscope. A prayer to him, especially on Saturdays, is said to mitigate the hardships one will have to face during these periods. Saniswara is considered equally a bestower of all benefits to the devotees who pray sincerely to him. He is ruled by Lord Yama.

Rahu (Ascending node of the Moon)

Rahu makes the life stronger. Rahu is instrumental in strengthening ones power and converting even any enemy into a friend.

Ketu (Descending node of the Moon)

Kettu brings prosperity to the devotee's family removes the effect of bad, illness arising out of poisonous matter entering one's body. He grants good health, wealth and all round prosperity.

Indian Astrology associates the following planets with the gods/goddesses as follows: Sun: Lord Siva Moon: Goddess Parvathi Mars: Lord Karthikeya (Subramanya) Mercury: MahaVishnu Jupiter: Lord Dakshinamurthi Venus: Mahalakshmi Saturn: Lord Yama Rahu: Goddess Durga Kethu: Lord Ganesa or Indra.

To get right results from navagraha shanthi dont change anything as mentioned in our vedas.

After the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Siva) the Navagrahas (including Surya) have the maximum importance in Hindu Rituals. They are considered to play a major role in deciding the destiny of man.

All the nine grahams (planets) viz Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu (Snake's head) and Ketu (Snake's tail) give us pleasure and serenity and remove obstacles from our way. The names of the seven bodies (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) are still connected, in some languages, with the seven days of the week. In astrology, great importance is placed on the positions of the various planets in the twelve constellations of the zodiac, the belt around the sky in which the movements of Sun, Moon and planets are confined. All astrology is totally based on the planetary movements and its effect on human beings. Navagrahas along with their consorts are found very rarely even in India. It is one of a kind in Singapore.Navagrahas with their consorts are called SAKTHI SAMETHA NAVAGRAHAS.Praying to the grahas when they are with their consorts is considered to bring immediate positive influence as the grahas are in a cheerful mood. Kalava Munivar had foreseen his future and relised that he would suffer from leprosy. He prayed to the Navagrahas, who being pleased with his devotion absolved him of the disease. Brahma Deva on realising that the Navagrahas were granting boons, instead of aspecting a person as per his/her good and bad deeds, condemned them to suffer from leprosy and banished them to earth.

The Navagrahas realising their mistake, pleaded for mercy. Brahma adviced them to seek the blessings of Lord Siva and his consort Uma Devi residing at Thirumangalakudi, after bathing in the holy river, Cauvery. He adviced them to consume only curd rice laid on Velerukku leaf. Lord Siva, pleased with their devotion absolved them of their sins and decried that there will be nine sannadhis for the navagrahas in the Suryanar temple (this is the only temple where all the navagrahas are present with separate sannadhis) and those who pray here will get relief from their problems. Those who suffer the ill effects of Kalathara Dosham, Vivaha Paribandha Dosham, Puthra Dosham, Puthra Paribandha Dosham, Vidhya Paribandha Dosham, Udyoga Padhibandha Dosham, Surya dasai, Surya bukthi would benefit from worshipping at this temple. Father, Athma, physical strength, right eye, governmental largesse are the beneficial aspects of this planet.

Suriyan The Suryanar temple is located 12kms from Kumbakonam enroute to Mayavaram. Surya's wives are Usha, Prathyusha. The presiding deities are Puranavaradheeswarar and his consort Mangalanayaki. Surya is the Lord of Simma Rasi and occupies the central place amongst the navagrahas. The adidevatha is Agni, prathyutha Devatha - Rudran. His colour is red and his vahana is a chariot drawn by seven horses. The grain associated with his is wheat; the flower - lotus, yerukku; fabric - red clothes; gem - ruby; food - wheat, rava, chakkara pongal. Surya is the lord of vegetation and breathing. He claims the first puja in siva puja and yaga puja.

Chandran Chandran is also hailed as Thingal and his abode is Thingalur. it is here that Chndran prayed to Lord Siva and got his blessings. As Chandran is held in the locks of Lord Siva, all devotees who worship Easwaran have also to worship this planet. The Devas and asuras were churning the paarkadal using Mandira Malai and the snake Vasuki. The asuras held the head portion of the snake and the devas, the tail portion. The poison emitted by Vasuki was consumed by Lord Siva to save the devas, but the toxicity of venom affected the Devas who swooned on its impact. Alongwith the nectar (amirtham), Chandran emerged and it was he who revived the Devas. Apputhi Adigal was born in Thingalur. he was an ardent follower of Thirunavukkarasar, without ever laying his eyes on the great soul. He did a lot of welfare activity in his hometown in the name of Thirunavukkarasar. During his visit to this holytown Thirunavukkarasar heard about Apputhi Adigal and visited his abode and consented to partake in the meal offered in his honour. To serve food for Thirunavukkarasar, Apputhi Adigal sent his son to the garden to fetch a plantain leaf. When on this errand, a snake bit him and the lad passed away. Not wishing to disappoint his guest, Apputhi Adigal covered the corpse of his son and tried to serve his mentor. But realising the situation, Thirunavukkarasar carried the corpse to the temple of Lord siva in Thingalur and revived the boy singing and imploring the Lord with Thirupadigam. Dosham to mother, mental retardation, skin and nerve problems, jaundice, fluid accumalation are the diseases caused becaus eof Chandra dosham. By praying to Lord Chandran, the above afflictions can be overcome. Wealth, mother's/wife's happiness, Govt's help, ownership of vehicle, marriage, offsprings, prosperity, foreign travel will be bestowed on his devotees. The sthalam of Chandran is Thingalur, which is located 36kms from Kumbakonam, enroute to Thiruvaiyaru. Chandran's wife is Rohini. The presiding deity are Kailasanathar and his consort Periyanayakiamman. Chandran is the Lord of Kadaga Rasi and he faces the South-East direction. The Adi Devatha is water; prathyathi Devatha is Gowri; his colour is white and his vahana is white horse. The grain associated with him is paddy, rice; the folwer - white arali; fabric - white cloth; gem - pearl; food - curd rice.

Chevvai Chevvai Bhagavan is worshipped in the town of Vaideeswaran Koil which is also called Thirupullirukku Velur. Sambathi, Jadayu, Lord Muruga, Suriyan are also reputed to have worshipped in this sthalam. Even diseases that could not get cured by Mani Manthira Aushathangal got cured at this place and the presiding deity came to be called Vaidyanathar. His consort who was the chief of women of both worlds is hailed as Thayal Nayagi. Selva Muthukumarasami of this temple is lovingly called Muthiah. Kumaragurubarasami wrote the book "Muthukumarasami Pillai Thamizh".

Once, when Lord Shiva was in deep meditation, perspiration from his third eye fell on earth. The male child that was born of this sweat drop was Angaragan (Chevvai). Angaragan married Sakthi Devi of Avanti town and had a son called Sumarasan. Problems from wife/children/brothers, enimity with friends, loss of wealth, quarrels, problems with Govt., lasting poverty, anger, bad friendship, Kalathira Dosham are because of Chevvai. By praying to him, a person can offset the problems arising out of his afflictions. Brothers and sisters, physical strength, victory, valour are the beneficial aspects of this planet. What is the reason for seeking the substitute? Is wheat grain not available in Singapore?

Wheat is specific to Sun and there is no substitute.

You can also use Semolina/Rava or Wheat Flour if wheat grain is not available locally.
