I don't know much about Shanivar Vrat. The following advices are from web sites as given. Please consult an Astrologer or Temple Priest before starting Shanivar Vrat and do the Vrat according to their advice.

Please see this link to know about Saturday Fast

http://www.ammas.com/a1/advisors/in…

Saturday Fast : Lord Shani is worshipped on this day. Among the things offered to the Lord are Black Til (sesame oil), Black clothes, Oil, Urad (black gram whole). One should have meals only once in the evening after the puja is over. Food cooked should be without salt.Generally devotees worship Saturn idol made of iron. Black flowers, black sesame seeds (itls,), horse bean (urada) and black clothes are used for worship. Black articles and oil are given in donation. Black sesame and horse bean are taken as food. The Saturday fast keeps away all the hurdles and misfortunes. Lord Saturn is portrayed sitting in a glass chariot, yoked with eight black horses. People eat parched grams on this day to keep off the influence of Saturn. They massage their bodies with mustard oil and also give oil in donation. Lord Hanuman is also worshipped on Saturdays because disciples of Lord Hanuman are never influenced by the Shani sign. As the story goes, Ravana had held Lord Shani and Mahakal captive and it was Lord Hanuman who freed them from his captivity during the burning of Lanka. Feeling obliged, Lord Shani had promised Hanuman that he would not trouble those who worship Lord Hanuman.

http://www.punditravi.com/hindu_vra… SATURDAY VRAT We worship The God Shani this day • Among the things offered to the Lord are Black Til (sesame oil), Black clothes,Oil, Urad( black gram whole) • One should have meals only once in the evening after the puja is over • Food cooked should be without salt. Those who worship Lord Shani on Saturdays and observe vrat will have all their sorrows driven away and will lead a happy life. How to safeguard against the evils linked to Shani rashi? Those born with Shani signs should apply oil themselves and donate oil to Brahmans on Saturdays. The worship includes first praying before an iron image of Shani kept in an iron utensil, then black flowers, 2 black clothes ,kasar (prasadam), til(sesame seeds) and cooker rice are used for worshipping. A black blanket, sesame seeds oil and some donation is offered to a Brahman. Thereafter recite the following verse: " Sha No Dewarmishtaya Aapo Bhavantu Pitaye Sha Yorbhi Stravantu namah." In order to make himself immune to the evils related to Shani sign, one should perform this worship and observe vrat on each Saturday for 1 year. On each Saturday one should also worship the Peepul tree, tie a cotton thread round it's bark seven times while chanting " Shani Devta Ki Jai". Worship the God using Dhoop, and sweets, wear an iron ring.

http://www.shanidham.com/astrology/… The following remedial measure can be made to cut down the malefic results of the SadheSati of the Shani : - • Put eight kilograms of mustard oil in an iron pot and look your face into it. Now, take this oil in Shani temple and offer the oil at Shani idol while wearing wet red Lungi. It is an appropriate manner of ‘Telabhishek’ (bathing Shani idol with oil). 'The Dhaiya' When Shani transiting over the Fourth and the Eighth house from the Natal Moon, it is called the Fourth & the Eighth Dhaiya respectively. Shani takes complete 30 years to take a round of the zodiac. Thus, it remains for two and a half years over each sign. When Shani transits over the fourth or the eighth house from natal moon, it is called 'Dhaiya'. These two periods of 'Dhaiya' leave the good and the bad effects over the native. Every body has to pass through this period. Those having malefic effects of Shani, should perform remedial measures, without fail. In the 'Dhaiya' of Shani, its impact on our life increases and the malefic position causes to increase malefic effects. The benefic effects of moon are turned down and are gone useless. Thus, the native gets surrounded by the problems and the troubles. Perform the following remedial measures to nullify the adverse (malefic) effects during the period of Dhaiya: - • Write “Tainteesa Yantra (device)” over a white cloth with collyrium or black ink and put a dry coconut fruit over it and wrap this cloth like a parcel. Circumambulate this parcel over the head of the native seven times and throw it into the flowing water. Such a remedial measure be done on continuous three 'Shani Amavasya'. It would help to nullify Shani related problems. • Whosoever is affected by the 'Dhaiya', he himself should enchant the below mentioned Tantric-Mantra of Shani, to obtain the grace of Lord Shani - Om Pram, Preem, Prom, Se, Shanishcharaya Nameh!” How to Enchant : 21 series of this Mantra be enchanted. Enchant them for continuous 40 days. Don’t break the chain while doing so. It should not be stopped in between. Enchant the Mantra sitting on the same place every day. Observe celibacy and take pure and vegetarian food only. Keep fasting on Saturday and donate oil, urad, gram etc. • Arrange a feast for mendicants in Shani temple for eight Saturdays, if possible. • Offer vermillion to Hanuman ji every tuesday. • Arrange enchantment of “Mahamrityunja Japa”. • A part of your food should be offered to

a crow

good luck

Hai , Shani and Hanuman The worship of Lord Hanuman is a panacea for the harsh effects of the 'unfavourable' presence of Lord Shani. In the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman is said to have rescued Shani from the clutches of Ravana and in gratitude, Shani promised Hanuman that anyone who prayed to Him (Hanuman), especially on Saturdays, would be rescued from the "malefic" effects of Saturn, or at the very least, the effects would be softened.

Another version of the encounter between Lord Hanuman and Shani is that once Shani climbed on to Hanuman's shoulder, implying that Shani's influence was beginning on Lord Hanuman. At this, Hanuman assumed a large size, and Shani was caught painfully between Hanuman's shoulders and the ceiling of the room they were in. As the pain was unbearable, Shani requested Lord Hanuman to release him, promising in return, that if a person prayed to Lord Hanuman, he (Shani) would moderate the malefic effects of his influence on that person if not all together have no malefic influence on the person; following this, Lord Hanuman released Shani.

[edit] Ways to please Sri Shani-Maharaj Shani YantraAlso it is said that Shaneeswara Swamy is a very great devotee of Lord Shiva. As mentioned in the "Navagraha Pidahara Sthothram" of "Brahmanda Purana", anybody who chants the following sthothra is relieved from all the ill-effects of Shaneeshwara Swamy placed in bad houses.

Suryaputhro Deerghadeho Vishaalaakshah Shivapriyah | Mandachaarah Prasannathmaa peedam harathu me Shanih || ????? ?????? ????? ???? ?????????? ?????????? ???????? ???????????? ????? ???? ?? ???? ? One who prays to Lord Vishnu is protected from Shani as he is said to be a great devotee of Vishnu. (It is interesting to note that Hanuman Himself was devoted to Lord Rama, an avatar of Vishnu).

It is also a wide spread belief that one who is an ardent devotee of Lord SriLakshmiNarasimha Swamy or Lord Venkateswara (Balaji) is also always protected by Sri Shani Maharaj.

Except for prayers to Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu you can also chant mantras for Shani to relieve the ill effects of Shani.

Mantra for Shani : Aum praang preeng proung sah Shanaye namah Neelaanjan samaabhaasam raviputram yamaagrajam, Chaayaa-maartandam-sambhootam, Tam namaami Shanaishcharam.

You can chant this mantra for at least 7 times a day, because Shani is the 7th planet counted starting from the Sun. However, if you are troubled by Shani it would be better to chant the above mantra for 108 times a day.

Hello! I am very sorry to note that you are placed under a very unique circumstance and you are not in a position to go out of your house. It is also a fact, that people are reluctant to perform "Sri Shaneshawara pooja" within house. Under the prevailing circumstances, the alternative is to offer prayers to " Sri Shani Deva" by staying inside your house. You arrange to get a book of "Navagraha Japa Vidhi" available in all book houses (Publishers: T.N.Krishnaiah and sons, Chickpet Bangalore)and start chanting of-- Shaneshwara manthra, stothra, kavacha and astoththara. I know that it is very time consuming and it is very difficult in the begining till you mug up the entire thing. What I suggest you is start chanting "Shanaischara astoththara Namavali" in the beginning and go ahead by gradually including other Shathanama Sthothra and others. Don't worry, it is the 'Bhakthi'or 'Devotion' that counts in any pooja or prayer and performance of other 'Kainkarya'always stands in second place compared to Bhakthi. (Kainkarya: Pooja with Kumkum, Haldi and flowers etc.) wish you all the best and thank you. P.S.:If you are having 'Onti koppal Panchanga' (Almanc) there also you will find prayers to"Shani Deva'
