Shield your body from the sun as far as possible to prevent discolouration. Wear full sleeves if you are going to be in strong sunlight, cotton, so you do not feel too hot. If you would rather wear short sleeves, make sure you apply adequate sunscreen not just on your face, but on your arms as well.

cure:

If you already have discolouration, you could visit a dermatologist who would be able to prescribe appropriate treatment. Mild chemical pigment peels are also available wherein the outer discoloured layer of the skin is peeled off. But unless your skin tone is starkly uneven, or if you have discolouration or patches on your face, I do not see the need for going in for this. Homeopathy medication has also been known to treat pigmentation, but while there are no guarantees, this medication is safe, has no side effects, and is worth a shot.

Drink at least ten glasses of water in a day. Drink two glasses of water in the morning when you wake up, before brushing your teeth.

Try applying lime (nimbu) to the discoloured area. Do this everyday, and wash off after 15 minutes. You could also apply lime to the affected area at night once in a while, and wash off in the morning when you bathe.

Bleaching the affected area once a month will lighten it too. Do not bleach when pregnant.

Various creams and lotions that claim to reduce pigmenation are also available. You could try them to see if they work for you.

Include the following list in your daily diet if you are suffering from Skin Pigmentation-

Liver,Sweet potatoes, Carrots, Mangoes, Spinach,Cantaloupe,Dried Apricots,Milk,Cheese,Egg yolks,Sunflower Seeds ,Almonds,Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Corn oil, Blueberries, Hazelnuts,Wheat Germ, Pine Nuts,Avocado,Salmon

Here are some Home Remedies for Skin Pigmentation.

1. Apply Vitamin E Gel Caplets(400mg) on the affected area everyday before going to bed.

2. Grate some Raw Potato, squeeze the Juice out of it and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes. Its an excellent Skin Lightener.

3. Mix some Orange Peel Powder with Raw Milk and make a thick paste and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes. Its a very good Skin Lightener.

4. Apply some mashed Strawberry on your face and rinse off after 15 minutes to get lighter complexion.

5. Mix some Lemon Juice and Cucumber Juice in equal proportion and apply on your face, Rinse off after 20 minutes to get brighter complexion.

6. Make a face pack out of Ground Almonds(Soaked Overnight) and Raw Milk or Cream and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes.

Hi, First of all dont get depressed. Nothing is impossible. Kindly try the following: For the pigmentation problem u could apply lime juice daily on the affected area. U could also mix honey with the lemon juice as honey is a natural moisturizer. Dont step out without a sunscreen on. Exposure to the UV rays may make things worse. Drink plenty of water. You could also try the skin lightning creams available in the market. Hydroquinone night cream is good. Try that. For scars: 1.Make a paste of neem leaves and apply. After it dries wash it off with besan. Donot use soap. 2.Dry orange peels and finely grind it. Mix this with tomato juice and apply. 3.You can use aloevera gel regularly to reduce the marks. 4.Apply a paste of garlic on the affected area. 5.Steam your face once in a week so that the pores get cleaned. This will also improve the complexion of the skin to a large extent. All these will take time. You should atleast wait for a month or two to see the result All the best!! Thanks, Deepi.

Hello Tina,

Try these home remedies.Take two tablespoons of milk powder; add hydrogen peroxide (this is available with the Chemist) - use a 20-volume strength only). Add enough to make a paste and add a few drops of glycerine and apply to the dark spots; leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse it off. After rinsing, if the skin feels dry, use a moisturising lotion. Break a Vitamin E capsule and mix it with a few drops of castor oil and apply on deeply pigmented areas. Mash a small portion of Avocado and natural honey together and apply to face 2 times a week. Scrub for removing dead skin:

Crush 1 tsp of almonds and add 1 tsp of oatmeal. Mix this with 2 tsp of honey or milk; gently rub this granule paste in a circular motion on your face for a few minutes. This will help to remove the dead skin.

Along with these take healthy vitamin rich diet.If all these home remedies doesnt work consult a guynaecologist. In my personal practice i have found that pigmentation on face is usually associated with uterine fibroid or ovarian cyst, especially you are middle aged. You may not have any other complaints like back ache or menstrual irregularities.pls consult a doctor, and do an abdominal scan to rule out this possiblity.

Melasma is the disease. It is a distressing pigmentary disorder of the face for which women often seek treatment. When seen in pregnant women, it is sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy." However, melasma does not only, or even primarily, occur in pregnant women. The most common variant of melasma is characterized by pigmentation on the centrofacial area, including forehead, cheeks, upper lip, and chin (Fig. 1). The second most common variant involves pigmentation of the cheeks, or malar area, and the next most common, occurring in fewer than 10% of cases, is the mandibular area. Pigmentation is macular and usually light brown or dirty gray in color; it is patchy, irregular, and usually symmetrical. The pigmentation is aggravated by sunlight exposure, oral contraceptives, and pregnancy.

Treatment of melasma entails avoiding exposure to sunlight, regular application of sunscreen during the day, and, in some cases, use of topical bleaching agents (usually containing hydroquinone). Various topical combinations of formulations containing tretinoin (Retin A), hydroquinone, and steroids have been reported to be effective in reducing the pigmentation of melasma. Topical tretinoin alone may also clear the pigmentation; however, when using topical creams, patients must be prepared to continue treatment for prolonged periods of up to a year before significant improvement is observed.

Some chemical peels of moderate depth, using low-concentration trichloroacetic acids or Jessner's solution, may reduce the epidermal pigmentation of melasma. Weak chemical peels containing alphahydroxy acids do not generally provide any improvement. Currently available laser treatments generally aggravate melasma and are, therefore, best avoided. Finally, although the role of estrogen or progesterone in melasma has not been proven scientifically, patients on oral contraceptives should be persuaded to try an alternative contraceptive method. Some women who eliminate oral contraceptives report a reduction in melasma.http://www.medscape.com/…

Dear tina, skin pigmentation could be due to a number of reasons,i suggest you to better seek the advice of a good dermatologist before you put your face to test...bcoz using diifernt brands of creams might have adverse effects on your skin making the skin more nd more dark....your dermatologist shud be the right person to help you out with this problem.there are lots of creams available at the markets today but not all give the right results.... however try (Bio Taches) depigmenting biological emulsion (jcd laboratories paris).apply twice daily morning and evening on brown spots for 8 to 12 weeks according to their depth and oldness.check if you can get this at ur local pharmacy.if not their mail id is ********@*****.***. address-laboratoire jcd pharmoccitan,11-13,rue george bernard shaw, 75015 paris tel:33(0)53868610.but again i do suggest u to check with a dermatologist bfore you apply this....

It looks like you might have some deficiency so the best thing to do is ask a dermatologist. But massaging your face with vitamin E oil or any facial oil like olive, almond, sesame for that matter would give it the required moisture. But do talk to a dermatologist before using any chemical creams.

Apply Vitamin E gel every night on the affected areas before going to bed. You can also mix equal quantities of cucumber and lemon juice to the affected areas and rinse with cold water after 15-20 mins. Even almond paste made with milk and ground almonds is good for removing scars.
