I have a personal loan in the amount of Rs. 500000.00/- from HDFC bank. Been making payments on it since 1.5 years. Never late. The interest rate is quite high. Is it possible to refinance this at lower interest rate from other banks...if so what is the procedure.

credit debt recovery |
| Question: | |
This question has come from a cell phone. Here is the question: This is a question about debt in the US. If someone had somewhere between $6,000-15,000 in debt including credit card debts and she became very ill and basically fell off the grid for something like seven years, what happens to those debts, if anything. Is her credit ruined forever? Is the credit slate wiped clean after a certain amount of time? All these debts were with collection at some point but this person ended up leaving the country to be cared for by relatives. No money was made during this time. She still needs to file some backtaxes for the last three years but her income has been nearly nothing. She would like to move back to the USA if her health eventually permits it but she has no idea what kind of financial mess she will be returning too. Should she hire a lawyer? Is there any kind of forgiveness arrangements available for people who are disabled and in old debt? She can provide medical documentation for everything. Is it nothing too much for her to be worried about? Could she be in any kind of legal trouble and if so how can she find out without bringing old creditors down on her while she is still ill? Any assistance in the matter would be much appreciated.
