  Actually water can "float" on water. Cold arctic salt water sinks and flows all the way to the equator. It is near freezing at any great depth in the ocean and there is so little mixing that it takes

It depends on the substance with which water is in solution. For example, water will float on any substance which has a higher density than itself.

Eg: Mercury. If you pour water in a jar
