Diwali special (Murukku 2)

Murukku is a deep-fried popular snack usually prepared during Diwali in Tamilnadu. This is another variation  

List of ingredients:

For the Murukku Dough
4 cups rice flour  
1 cup split gram/pottu kadalai flour  
2 teaspoons sesame seeds/til or cumin seeds  
1 teaspoon salt  
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida powder  
2 tablespoons butter  
Oil For Deep Frying
3 cups oil  

Cooking procedure
1.Mix the ingredients for the dough without adding water.

2.Take this mixture, add water to it to get a dough like consistency. Now take this dough and put the mixture in murukku press with the star shape.Make the murukkus on a wet cloth as shown in the picture.

3.Heat oil in a kadai. Test how hot it is by dropping a pinch of dough into it - if it sinks, the oil hasn't become hot enough. If the dough springs to the top with bubbles all around it, then the oil is just ready.

4.Drop in the murukku gently into the hot oil and fry till golden brown. Keep flipping the sides till the murukku is done.

5.Remove and allow them to cool.
Storage tips:
Store in airtight tins.

This murukku remains good for a week.
Any additional information:
If the amount of rice flour is more than 4 cups then divide the dough mixture before adding water into proportionate parts ie if 8 cups is taken then divide the mixture into two parts and when first part of murukku is made then mix water to the second part and make murukkus.
