Chutney : Sweet Tamarind Chutney

Number of servings: 4

This sweet and sour chutney goes great with hot spicy samosas, pakodas and even bajjis.  

List of ingredients:
1 cup tamarind  
1 ¼ cup jaggery (molasses)  
½ spoon finely chopped ginger  
2 spoons jeera powder  
2 spoons garam masala powder  
salt to taste  

Cooking procedure
Soak tamarind in water and make a paste of it. Remove any excess pulp. Cook the paste on high flame. Add water if needed, but make sure the tamarind is cooked well. Meanwhile dry roast the jeera powder, garam masala powder and ginger for about 2 – 3 minutes. Add this into the tamarind sauce. Powder the jaggery and add into the tamarind sauce, stirring continuously to make sure the jaggery mixes well. Add a pinch of salt and let cook for about 5 – 10 minutes. Remove from flame and let it cool. Serve with hot samosas.
Storage tips:
This chutney can be poured into an airtight container and refrigerated for upto 2 weeks.
