Churmuri (Puffed rice snack)

Number of servings: 4

Churmuri (Puffed Rice Snack)
Churmuri is another one of the famous, light and tasty chaat snacks that is popular in both the Northern and Southern part of India. The name of this snack reminds of me those wonderful days I had while growing up, eating churmuri from a paper bag on the sides of streets in Bangalore with my cousin. It is easy to make and is a great quick fix idea for a quick bite in the evenings.

List of ingredients:
4 cups puffed rice (mamra or marmaralu or pori)
3 tbsp oil
11/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 cup roasted peanuts
2 in number tomatoes (chopped into cubes)
3 tsp lime juice
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 in number onion (chopped fine)
1/4 cup chopped cucumber
2 tbsp roasted chutney dal (putnaala pappu, pottukadalai or hurgadale)
1 tsp salt (or to taste)

Cooking procedure
Method: Combine all the above ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Serve immediately while crisp.
Storage tips:
Tastes best when fresh.
