Rice Krispies Mixture (Healthy but simple)

I love crunchy snacks. But should not be eating the oil that goes with them. This recipe calls for much less oil than most Indian deep fried snacks.

No. of servings: 1

List of ingredients:

  • 1 Box rice krispies cereak  
  • 1/2 Cup cashews  
  • 1 Packet whole wheat tortillas (available in us )  
  • 1 Teaspoon cumin seeds  
  • 1 Teaspoon coriander seeds  
  • 1/2 Teaspoon chilli powder  
  • salt to taste  
  • curry leaves  
  • 10 Pods red chillies (cut to halves)  
  • 1 Packet potato chips (or 1 can potato sticks)  

Cooking procedure:

1. Roast the rice crispies (2 minutes each batch) and keep gathering onto a large vessel.

2. Open the Packet of chips into this vessel.

3. Cut the tortillas into diamonds and deep fry these and gather into the vessel. If you cannot find tortillas you can omit these as they are oily anyway. You can substitute with more chips.

4. Gather the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, red chilli powder, aestofoda, a few curry leaves and salt into a spice mill and make a masala powder.

5. In a small pan heat the oil. Roast cashews to golden brown. Add some curry leaves, red chilli pods. Now add the masala to it. Stir and pour onto the Rice Krispy mixture in the vessel. Now mix till the spices are uniformly distributed. Check the salt. Cool and store in air tight containers to last at least a month without any problem.

Additional Info:

You can substitute with more nuts or more variety of cereals. But the masala is what gives it that flavor.
