French Beans and Moong Dal Kootu
This dish is a simple vegetable dish that is tasty and great with rice or roti. It is one those dishes that I devised just because we get bored with the normal and regular stuff. Nutritious because it contain both vegetable and dal, this dish can be made even for parties and functions.

List of ingredients:
- 3 cups french beans (green beans - chopped into small pieces)
- 1 cup split moong dal (split green gram)
- 1/2 in number onion (chopped fine)
- 1 pinch turmeric (haldi) powder
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- For the masala:
- 1 cup grated fresh cocunut
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 inch cinnamon stick (dal chini)
- 2 in number cloves
- 1 tsbp cilantro leaves (coriander leaves)
- 6 in number green chillies
Method: Step 1: Grind the masala ingredients into a smooth paste with about 1/2 cup of water in a mixer or blender. Step 2: In a pan, heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds. After they splutter add the chopped onions and saute until golden brown. Step 3: Then add the chopped beans and salt. Mix and add 3 cups of water and cover with a lid. Boil for about 15 minutes or until the beans are tender. Step 4: Meanwhile in a saucepan add the dal and enough water and boil until the dal is cooked and soft. You may cook the dal in the microwave (it normally takes about 15 to 20 minutes). Step 5: Add the boiled dal and turmeric to the beans and mix. Then add the ground masala and boil for another 10 minutes or until the raw smell of the masala goes. Step 6: Serve hot with roti or rice.
