16 somwar is a very tough vrat to follow..four months, every somwar the devotee has to keep fast, not eat anything...there are other rules also. vrats have to be done exactly as they are prescribed in the shastras...pls consult a good guruji before you

go to pooja room(or nearby Shivji temple) with some fruits, some sweet, pure water in a good utensil, saome flowers and scented dhoopbattis.Read the story of 'Solah Somvar Vrat' from some book(which you can easily get from any book store).Read out Arti of Shivji. You can also read mahamrityunjaya mantra which is really very affective. Then pour the water in front of Sun. In the evening read out aarti and mahamrityunjaya again with full faith. After that you can eat anything. plz tell if u dont know maha mrityunjaya mantra, i can tell you.

Q: Want to understand Disaster Management and surveilance System.
-- Antony Raj, India Apr 01 08
A: [b] Emergency management (or disaster management) [b]is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks.[1] It is a discipline that involves preparing, supporting, and rebuilding society when natural or human-made disasters occur. In general, any Emergency management is the continuous process by which all individuals, groups, and communities manage hazards in an effort to avoid or ameliorate the impact of disasters resulting from the hazards. Actions taken depend in part on perceptions of risk of those exposed.[2] Effective emergency management relies on thorough integration of emergency plans at all levels of government and non-government involvement. Activities at each level (individual, group, community) affect the other levels. It is common to place the responsibility for governmental emergency management with the institutions for civil defense or within the conventional structure of the emergency services. In the private sector, emergency management is sometimes referred to as business continuity planning.

Emergency Management is one of a number of terms which, since the end of the Cold War, have largely replaced Civil defense, whose original focus was protecting civilians from military attack. Modern thinking focuses on a more general intent to protect the civilian population in times of peace as well as in times of war. Another current term, Civil Protection is widely used within the European Union and refers to government-approved systems and resources whose task is to protect the civilian population, primarily in the event of natural and human-made disasters. Within EU countries the term Crisis Management emphasises the political and security dimension rather than measures to satisfy the immediate needs of the civilian population.[citation needed] The academic trend is towards using the more comprehensive term disaster risk reduction, particularly for emergency management in a development management context. This is particularly important in developing nations. The process of emergency management involves four phases: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

[b]Example of Disaster managerment GIS[B] A geographic information system (GIS), also known as a geographical information system or geospatial information system, is any system for capturing, storing, analyzing and managing data and associated attributes which are spatially referenced to Earth.

In the strictest sense, it is any information system capable of integrating, storing, editing, analyzing, sharing, and displaying geographically referenced information. In a more generic sense, GIS is a tool that allows users to create interactive queries (user created searches), analyze the spatial information, edit data, maps, and present the results of all these operations. Geographic information science is the science underlying the geographic concepts, applications and systems, taught in degree and GIS Certificate programs at many universities.

Geographic information system technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource management, asset management, environmental impact assessment, urban planning, cartography, criminology, history, sales, marketing, and logistics. For example, GIS might allow emergency planners to easily calculate emergency response times in the event of a natural disaster, GIS might be used to find wetlands that need protection from pollution, or GIS can be used by a company to site a new business to take advantage of a previously underserved market.

Geographic information can be accessed, transferred, transformed, overlaid, processed and displayed using numerous software applications. Within industry commercial offerings from companies such as ESRI and Mapinfo dominate, offering an entire suite of tools. Government and military departments often use custom software, open source products, such as GRASS, or more specialized products that meet a well defined need. Although free tools exist to view GIS datasets, public access to geographic information is dominated by online resources such as Google Earth and interactive web mapping.Example of Disaster managerment GISEmergency management (or disaster management)

Q: I bought and have had this ceiling fan/light for 35 years. It has been a long time since I added oil and don't remember where to add it. There is a hole above the motor housing and I think that's where it goes but it's not marked and the original instructions I have don't show where to add the oil. It is a Model 22302 Hunter Olde Tyme fan and made by Robbins and Myers, Inc.
-- Alan Brackett, L.A., CA Apr 06 08
A: Most ceiling fan manufacturers claim their fans will never require oil. Most of these fans can operate for many years with no added lubrication. However, depending on the life and age of the fan, motors may ultimately require to be oiled whether they are designed for it or not.

Some fans are made with an "oil-bath" lubrication system, designed to be oiled regularly to keep the bearings lubricated. Most motors made these days have "sealed bearings" they are lubricated when manufactured and not designed to require oil. However over time, with dirt and the heat from the motor etc, these sealed bearings eventually get dirty or dry and require to be cleaned and re-lubricated. If your fan is operating fine I wouldnt worry about it. However if it is running slow, the blades do not coast freely by hand, or it makes mechanical noise, it may need oil.

Certain fans, such as Hunter Originals and other older models, are designed to be oiled regularly, and not doing so could result in premature bearing wear. Also, even a fan not designed to be oiled, if the blades turn stiffly or do not coast, and yet the fan still runs properly, the added load on the motor could be causing it to overheat and wear prematurely. Better get some oil.

A: With the commencement of Surya Puja; the father should first address the right ear of the child with the mantra "Oh God may we hear bliss with our ears", performed so that child may listen to good things and to have a good education.

Spiritual Significance of Ear Lobes:

From ancient times, long ear lobes have been regarded as a sign of spiritual development and superior status. Among the distinguishing marks of the Buddha, and a sign of his greatness, were his large ear lobes. Homer and Aristotle reputedly also had the same characteristic.

In ancient times severed ears were offered to the Mother Goddess as a substitute for the male organs. In Egypt devotees offered their ears to the goddess Isis, and till the early decades of the Christian era, sculpted ears were offered at the shrine of the Great Mother in other parts of the Middle East.

Karnavedha:

Karnavedha or the practice of wearing earrings is one of the Hindu Sanskars (sacraments) performed for a child. It is an ear piercing ceremony that occurs in the third or fifth year for some Hindu children. Karnavedham is done with a particular thorn. Butter is applied to the wound. In several communities Karnavedha is applicable to both male and female children.

Yogis (most commonly those of Natha tradition) follow the practice of stretching the piercings to stimulate the psychic nerves connected to the ears.

Earrings Considered Auspicious for Married Women:

Since earliest times, wearing ear ornaments by married Indian women has been considered auspicious. Besides, earrings were considered to be a symbol of woman's wealth and her status in society. Elongated ear lobes were considered a sign of beauty and wealth - the longer the lobe, the greater the woman's wealth. By appending ornaments to almost every part of the ear, the woman also ensured a continuous state of mental and physical well being.

Karn Phool - The Ear Flowers:

Ancient Prakrit and Sanskrit literature describe girls wearing fresh flowers in their ears. A range of floral earrings of gold, silver or precious stones that have been popular over the centuries in India suggest that the forms of flowers were translated into precious jewelry. A type of flower known as the karnphul, i.e., 'ear-flowers' is considered particularly auspicious. Karn Phools are an large, round metal flower-form earring, with a central stud at the back being the equivalent of a flower stem.

Scholars believe that the choice of the flower as the inspiring shape for earrings is not without significance. Flowers are considered natural erotic stimulants, by virtue of their association with Kama, the God of love, besides these are considered a concise symbol of nature, condensing into a brief span of time the cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth. In addition, flowers also reflects gentleness, youth, spiritual perfection and innocence, qualities which are but the fundamental attributes of feminine character.

Therapeutic Significance of Wearing Earrings:

Recent studies have identified the ear as a microcosm of the entire body. Some even say the point of vision in acupuncture is situated in the center of the lobe. Hence the practice of wearing earrings is thought to have some therapeutic value. Besides, in certain places, ear piercing was believed to be good for the eyes. It also sharpened the mind and drew off 'bad humors'.

Tradition of Earrings in Contemporary Times:

In present times, tradition of wearing earrings is extremely strong in India. These are considered to be an extremely important fashion accessory by the women. These days, girls go in for inexpensive colorful metal earrings, which they change daily according to their dress. These artificial earrings are easily available in huge variety on road side stalls. But on formal occasions like weddings, festivals and other important occasions, ladies like to adorn their ears with gold, silver, pearl or diamond earrings. These days men, wear earrings to carry a styles statement. Usually men go in for small studs or balis. With the commencement of Surya Puja; the father should first address the right ear of the child with the mantra "Oh God may we hear bliss with our ears", performed so that child may listen to good things and to have a good education.
